Program:
Mary Alice Rathbun, a 25 year Rotarian from the Berkeley club presented  “Building Membership and Retention in your Rotary Club”.  The importance of inviting potential members to meetings, how you prepare for their arrival and what you do once they come is vital to building relationships and membership.  She shared what the Berkeley club does and reminded all that it is not the membership chair or the committee that is responsible for getting and retaining new members, but the club as a whole.  Mary Alice reminded us that it is important to make the visitors, as well as the speakers, feel welcomed and valued.  She shared with our club, documents that visitors are handed, explaining what Rotary is and what the club is all about.  Once a member joins, there are 9 items that must be completed before they are no longer a red badge member, all of which is intended to fully integrate the member into the club.
Mary Alice is our link to the biannual Chinese Consulate Ag Tour.  Her club many years ago worked with Shelter Box, which will be coming to our club to speak this fall, for humanitarian needs in China.  It is with this effort that the Berkeley club and Mary Alice began their close association with the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco.
