July 28 meeting

A brisk, refreshing breeze and the welcoming shade beneath the Orrville Rotary pavilion in lower Orr Park greeted sixteen club members to participate in their first in-person Rotary meeting in more then four months. Adhering to health and personal safety national guidelines while behind face coverings and at a social distance, staunch Rotarians warmly greeted each other, chatted amiably and together thoroughly relished their long overdue time together.
Following a welcome to all and request for announcements for the good of the club, the Pledge of Allegiance, and invocation by Dr. David Rittgers,  president Dave McPeek shared the following special presentation: "It is universally agreed within Rotary that it is a high honor to be nominated by your peers and selected as Rotarian of the Year.  Criteria for the award includes having been a member in good standing, participated in the club's annual service projects, as having exemplified Rotary's Four Way Test in his or her life, namely Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Excerpts from nominations for this year's honoree included 'She takes care of a lot of things for the club that most members are not even aware of, especially relating to Rotary and our International Avenue of Service.' Another commented 'For the entire 2019-2020 Rotary year she has graciously and unselfishly taken on the duties of the previously elected club secretary and has done it with the utmost skill. Additionally, the nominee has excelled in taking on the majority of tasks necessary to insure the smooth and sometimes complicated steps to facilitate getting things organized pertaining to our inbound and outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students. This nominee is also one of two club members who archive all photos of speakers at club meetings, as well as individual members' photos.  Always  patient and amiable in responding to members' ClubRunner questions,  the nominee possesses the skills, time and energy to keep members engaged and informed while hosting the ZOOM meeting process during the trying times of COVID-19.  So....after all is said and done, with praise and achievements revealed, our low-keyed, cool, calm and collected, prompt and efficient, succinct and precise, Orrville Rotary Club's 2019-2020 Rotarian of the Year is Amberly Wolf. Congratulations, Amberly!"
