The Rotary Club of Orléans in partnership with the Rotary Club of Dominica brings a distance learning platform to Dominica.

On June 16, 2021 the Dominica Smart Distance Learning Platform was launched.

Thank you to all who were able to attend.  For those unable to attend you may view that launch here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jlu9D-D7VnmdvI0P91j96Dt2xeVbW5Ni/view?usp=sharing .

The Launch was attended by 60 virtual attendees and another 35 that attended in person in the Smart Classroom at the Dominica State College.  Attendees included the Minister of Education & Minister of Telecom and Broadcasting in Dominica and virtually  District 7049 Governor Hadi Mortada, District 7030 Governor Lisle Chase, District 7040 Governor Elect Fay Campbell and District 7030 Governor Elect Sonya Alleyne.

Three courses will be delivered using the Platform as part of the pilot: General Construction, Eletrical Installation and Heavy Equipment Maintenance.  A key part of the pilot will be formalizing partnerships for the delivery of content by leveraging the capability of the platform.  The possibilities are endless.

Senator the Honourable Oscar George, Minister with the responsibility for Telecommunications and Broadcasting in Dominica said, “Today will definitely be remembered in the history of Dominica’s technological and educational archives as a simple yet very significant moment in the continued path to develop and advance the delivery of education in Dominica.”

Also as a result of this project Wayne Tosh has started discussions with the Minister of Telecommunication and Broadcasting in Dominica on a possible Computers in the Schools application in Dominica.

Other International projects our club successfully undertook this year included:

1) Providing two scholarships for Teachers in training in Jamaica. This is an ongoing annual program spear-headed by Fay.
2)  Helping to build a soccer field in Columbia also Fay led.
3) In partnership with the Rotary Club of West Ottawa, our club also helped to raise almost $15000 to help in relief and recovery efforts in St. Vincent's after the volcano eruption disaster.

We are looking forward to another productive Rotary year.  If you are interested in becoming more involved or familiar with International Service please let me know at ginleyjulia@gmail.com .
