The Merivale High School’s Interact club successfully launched their free lending library today at the Rotary Home (823 Rotary Way). Rotary Club of Orléans members attended to cheer on this community leadership project and to donate books for the library. Two Interact members built the library in their wood building class, Shaun coached Janice on the shingling of the roof which she then completed. The cement post was created offsite by Janice and Shaun. Timothy, an Interact member, worked hard on the installation as did Janice and Shaun. A special thanks to all who took the time to attend on this cool rainy Saturday morning. Let the borrowing and reading begin.
Great seeing our Rotary Club of Orleans' Ottawa Rotary Youth Forest reflected in Rotary International's May 2024 magazine, as part of the Climate Therapy article. Nice to see so many familiar faces on Page 33, featuring a photo taken when students from two local high schools helped plant 1,000 trees in Navan. Congrats to Phil McNeely and his team for this environmental work and leadership! The forest has survived its first winter and is looking good! [Photo here is a quick photo of the Page 33 photo]

Winter is over and our Forest Maintenance Group is back in action.  They report our forest looks great and are busy planning the replacement of trees that did not survive the winter.  Photos courtesy of Pascal
Today (March 13th) President Batool presented District Governor Elect Teresa Whitmore with her 5th Paul Harris pin!  Teresa was recognized for her long time service in Rotary.  We are proud to have Teresa part of our Club.  Teresa - you rock!
Today Speaker Barbara Carey, a Social Services Consultant and an advocate for Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Response at the Salvation Army, gave us an informative presentation.  We started with a discussion about the nature of human trafficking, then were shown examples of cases within Canada, supplied with statistics and learned about workshops for youth and adults and ways to advocate for those being trafficked.  We were encouraged to learn more about the Bill going through Parliament right now.  Barbara and her husband David (President, Passport Club) were part of the group photo at the end of the meeting.  They drove two hours to be here with us this morning, bravo to both of them!  Thanks so much.
President Batool inducted our newest member Wolfgang Gerber at our last meeting, Membership Chair Jane assisted. Welcome Wolfgang, who has already jumped in to be part of the Club's Environmental group.
