B. General Whitecross, the commander of the Northern Joint Task Force has taken over the military operations up here with outstanding vigor and energy.

B. General Whitecross, also a Rotarian, discussed the area that she commands in a powerpoint presentation.  It was outstanding to see the huge area of Canada that she commands, and is the most easily invaded if it were to happen.

She has a goal to have more integrated training between not just the between the land, air and sea of the Armed Forces, but also more jointly with other agencies such as the RCMP, SAR, and the Rangers.

The Rangers, she believes, are an integral part of monitoring the North. These Inuit live in the their communities and patrol the 300 km around their home.  So areas over lap, but there is still alot of ground that can particularly be quarrelsome. The Northwest Passage is one of them.  Although traditionally believed to be Canadian waters, other southern countries believe they are international waters.  It is small things like this that has B. Gen Whitecross energeized into more practical exercises with our military units to keep them ready for any type of scenario that might happen.

It is also interesting to know that B. Gen Whitecross is the FIRST female general in the history of the Canadian Armed Forces.  I know as a Rotarian I am quite proud of how B. Gen Whitecross handles herself within her command and with the civilian public. She is a fine example of a Rotarian.   We are lucky to have her with our club!!
