Welcome our new President!

The Rotary Club of Scituate, Rhode Island now has a new President, Lynn DuBois, to serve the 2021-2022 term. Lynn will be taking over July 1, 2021.  She has been a member of the club since 2016 and has served on various committees, as a board member, and as President Elect for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.  She has led the club on making necessary changes to the Scituate Art Festival food offerings when we were no longer able to serve chowder and clam cakes, by helping choose suitable replacement offerings.  We had two good years with fish & chips due to her vision and leadership.

Lynn is also a nurse and teacher, and she took an active role in managing the club’s response to Covid-19.  She took the lead in the “Million Mask Challenge” by securing medical-grade masks for first responders and other frontline workers in Scituate-Foster-Glocester.

Among her other accomplishments, Lynn roasts her own coffee at home and makes candles.  Her coffee and candles were used at the Mangia with Micheline Gourmet Dinner we hosted in early 2020.  We’re hoping to enjoy more of her coffee at future in-person meetings at the Anne Iron Homestead in Glocester.

Our new officers and board members are as follows: President – Lynn DuBois, President Elect – Sharon Johnson, Secretary – Jennifer Huff, Treasurer – Sarah O’Toole, Board: Allan Howe, Micheline Grossi Lombardi, Lola Smith, and Colleen Rose.

Wine & Beer Raffle

Thanks to Em’s Liquor Store on Park Avenue in Cranston, we were able to present weekly raffles throughout June.  Every Friday we had a Facebook live drawing where winners were presented with wine, beer, and other liquor, plus we had “door prizes” to those who viewed the feed live or stopped into Em’s Liquor Store in person.  Thank you to all who bought tickets, we were able to raise well over $1,000.00.  All funds raised help support the club in continuing our charitable projects, such as maintaining the playground, giving scholarships, donations to oil and heating relief, emergency aid, etc.

Member News

Micheline Grossi Lombardi has published another cookbook featuring her recipes and stories of family, friends, and food.  It is called “Mangia with Micheline: The Journey Continues.”  Now that the State and CDC are relaxing restrictions, we’re hoping to get to enjoy some of Miki’s recipes from the cookbook at meetings and fundraisers soon.

Playground Update

We were able to obtain a large amount of mulch for the Rotary Playground on Battey Meetinghouse Road due to obtaining a grant from the local Rotary District.  We had four huge piles dumped at the playground, and we were able to spread it all with help from the club members who showed up with a tractor and plenty of rakes and shovels.  It looks so nice having fresh mulch at the playground.  We are also continuing to plan for further renovations by replacing old equipment and obtaining additional pieces to add.  We have all the bricks that were ordered, and we are going to be leveling an area then placing the Peace Pole and laying the bricks around it.  We will give further updates once we have the site leveled.
