Momentum is Growing In Rotary

The Scituate Rotary Club serving Scituate, Foster, and Glocester and has been active this spring with many committees working to support Scituate, Foster and Glocester.

Our Farmers Market Committee is prepping for the upcoming season with a focus on keeping the market community centered. The market will continue to bring fresh produce, meat and local products to residents while also offering free family events. The market will recognize Scituate’s 250th birthday on July 4 and more surprises are planned throughout the season.

The Scholarship Committee recently reviewed applications for the Ponaganset High School Scholarship. Students were asked to describe an act of kindness they initiated on their own and the stories were heartwarming. Choosing a winner was difficult .We will announce the recipient after the scholarship breakfast. The club also donates five thousand dollars to a Scituate High School senior each year. Longtime members Lola Smith and Allan Howe, are original longtime members of Scituate scholarship committee, shared the history of the program with us and we are proud to continue that tradition.

Our Playground Committee is preparing for major improvements at the Scituate Rotary Playground. More information will be shared soon. The Garden Committee will begin planting shortly and will once again provide fresh produce to local food pantries.

A new committee is planning a celebration for Scituate’s 250th birthday in August at the Scituate Rotary Playground.

For ouri April service project we participated in the Earth Day Cleanup organized by the Scituate Sustainability Committee. Some members also picked up trash in Foster.

One of our newest groups is the Rising Stars Committee. It brings together new members and gives them a budget to create a project of their choice. We want new members to know they are welcome to join any committee and also bring forward new ideas. I

Rotary has evolved over the years. We meet once a month as a full club and committees meet separately, sometimes over breakfast or at a local pub. Committee work has helped many members and friends of Rotary build leadership skills and strengthen resumes. We also have budget and planning committees, fundraising, and Art Festival committee. Along with our service work we make time for monthly social events to stay connected as a club.

If anyone is interested in volunteering for a committee, joining one of our upcoming social events such as our wine tasting, or helping at one of our community events, please reach out to info@Scituaterotaryri.org.

We would also like to remind everyone that if you have a request for Rotary, an idea to share or a question, please reach out to our club secretary. Kristen Whelan keeps us organized and will make sure your inquiry is directed to the right place. We all enjoy hearing from friends in town, but contacting the correct email ensures you receive a timely response.

For Rotary inquiries and requests, email Secretary@ScituateRotaryRI.org. For Farmers Market inquiries, email ScituateFarmersMarket@gmail.com. We also have President@ScituateRotaryRI.org and Treasurer@ScituateRotaryRI.org available for specific needs.
