Mike from Hook-a-Hero shared how this small, Plant City non-profit is changing, and even saving lives well beyond Plant City’s borders.
Mike gave us an authentic, and at times personal glimpse of the human cost that burdens our First Responders. First Responders are lauded for their heroic efforts, but often the traumatizing details of the events they respond to are kept private. Unfortunately, First Responders sometimes must witness terrible events, and in some cases, those events leave emotional scars that go unattended.
There are limited resources for many of these affected First Responders, so Hook-a-Hero was established to provide counseling and community for those in need. Hook-A-Hero is a 100% non-profit 501(c)(3) staffed by volunteer first responders and civilians. Hook’s purpose is to provide a variety of mental health services, financial support and a peer support network to these American Heroes, and their families, who SERVE and PROTECT.
In addition to providing opportunities for traditional mental health support services, Hook facilitates various outdoor activities to promote engaging opportunities for these Heros. Dealing with the demands and stress of a first responder profession can often feel like an isolating task and too often our Heros feel they must face the challenge alone.

Bulletin Update
In addition to this online bulletin, the Club will print a monthly bulletin that will be available each month. Please take a moment to review the January edition, and let Scott Gardner know if you have any corrections to the directory portion of the bulletin.
A monthly printed bulletin instead of a weekly bulletin reduces waste (90% of the bulletins were going directly into the trash) and cost. (And it is much less work on your haphazard Rotary team of bulletin writers, editors, and producers.)
