Last weeks program was provided by Rotarian Jamie Moody. Bill Hughes introduced fellow Rotarian, Christine Miller, President of the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce. Christine took over as President of the Chamber of Commerce on August 15, 2016. Christine was the Director of the Plant City United Food Bank before taking her position with the Chamber. The Plant City Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1924 and currently has more than 630 members. The goal of the Chamber is to build strong relationships between businesses and the community. The Chamber has 4 main initiatives; 1-Networking opportunities for businesses - “Business after Hours”, Networking lunches on the 2nd Thursday of each month, “Java and Jeans” at 8:00am on the last Friday of each month, the “Non-Profit Leadership Round Table” are just a few examples. 2-Advocacy and Enrichment – Capitol Coffee, Lunch and Learn workshops, Candidate Forum and the Tallahassee Trek in March in conjunction with Hillsborough Day at the Capitol as an opportunity to advocate for Plant City. 3-Community Wide Outreach – a calendar of events constantly updated on the website www.plantcity.org, Parades and festivals consisting of “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, Pig Jam, Christmas Parade, etc., the Strawberry Classic Cruise-in, Bike Fest and the New Teacher Coffee, just to name a few. 4-Communication and Collaboration – the Chamber communicates through all avenues. The Chamber has great partnerships with the City of Plant City, Main Street, etc. The Tourist Information Center is certified as a “Visit Florida” location. Social media has over 15,000 followers on Facebook. The Chamber Ambassador program, with ribbon cuttings for new businesses and new members continues to be an incredible program to celebrate local businesses. With a 87% membership retention rate (higher than national Chamber average) and over 100 new members, the Chamber is helping businesses build a better community.-provided by Mike Arndt
Sunday, December 9th, is Buccaneer’s Game Day for Rotary! Join our club in watching our Bucanneers take on conference rival New Orleans. Tickets are $90/person. Spouses and guests are welcome to join the fun. The club will provide bus transportation to and from the game. We need at least 25 participants to make this work. Let Jodi know if you are interested!
Preparations are underway for the our club's second biggest fundraiser of the year. We need everyone to pitch in for this great event. Sponsorship opportunities are available and needed. Please see President Jodi and Doug Watson for more information.
