Last week’s program was provided by Rotarian Sophia Hyde. Sophia directed the club level of the Rotary Speech contest. The winner of the club level goes on to compete at the group level and the winner of that continues on to the district level. The contestant may be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior (9-12 grade) enrolled in a public, private, or home school, and may have competed and won in previous years. The speech is scored on its length of five to seven minutes, with points deducted for going over or under.
Memorized speeches are expected and notes are not allowed at the Group Level or District Finals. Material must be original in content and apply to the current Rotary theme: “Rotary Connects the World”. Speeches are scored based on: Content…Originality, creativity, imagination, human interest and relevant examples from peer group. Organization…Effective introduction and establishment of theme, orderly, logical body, clear points and transitions, vivid illustrations with a brief overview/summary at ending and a persuasive and logical conclusion. Delivery…Diction, pronunciation, enunciation, vocal clarity and projection including body language, posture, gestures, eye contact and purposeful movement.
We had three Plant City High School students but unfortunately two had to cancel at the last moment. Taryn Storter was our one contestant and she did an amazing job! The judges, Mike Arndt, Trey Stevens and Tim Kip all scored Taryn in the 90’s based on a best score of 100. Taryn was awarded $100 for first place and now moves on to the group level with a chance to win $250. Taryn did a great job and will be a great representative for our club at the Group level. Club & Member News
Tickets for both Wild Game and Wild Dames events are available and ready to be distributed. Jeremy Burris will have the Wild Game tickets, and will begin passing them out to you all at the meeting Monday. Tamara Fales has the Wild Dame tickets and can pass those out on Monday also.
Both events will be April 3rd.
Wild Game tickets are $100.00 for pre-purchased tickets and $125 if purchased at the gate. Wild Dame tickets are $75.00.
We will have a Wild Game meeting Tuesday, March 10th at 5:30 at Gumby's house for all that can attend.
