Last Meeting- Aug. 7th

Last week’s program was provided by Rotarian Kyle Robinson. Kyle’s scheduled speaker was Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White. Commissioner White sent his regrets that something had come up and that he would not be able to attend. Commissioner White did send his Aid, Megan Nixon, to speak to us. Stacy White was elected to the County Commission in 2014. In 2015, he was elected by the Board to serve in the leadership position of Chaplain. In 2016, the Board of County Commissioners elected him to be the Chairman. As part of his duties as a County Commissioner, he serves on:

Committee of Six
Hillsborough Regional Transit Authority (HART)
Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
Public Transportation Commission (Alternate)
Tampa Bay Estuary Program Policy Board, Vice Chair
Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council
Tourist Development Council, Chair

From 2010-2014, Stacy served on the Hillsborough County School Board, which is the eighth largest school district in the nation with an annual budget of nearly $3 billion and a student population totaling nearly 200,000 students. Stacy White is a fifth generation native of Hillsborough County who lives in Valrico with his wife of 21 years and their three children. After graduating from East Bay High School, he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida and has practiced pharmacy for 21 years. In addition to being a practicing pharmacist, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy with the University of Florida, where he educates pharmacy students during their internships. In 2006, the university recognized his outstanding work in this capacity by naming him Roche Preceptor of the Year in an Outpatient Setting. Stacy and his family attend New Hope United Methodist Church in Brandon. He and his wife are involved in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA / PTSA, and many other community activities. In their free time, Stacy and his family enjoy boating, fishing, camping, and Florida Gators athletics. Megan Nixon related to us that Commissioner White is working hard for the county and especially for district 4 which includes Plant City. Commissioner White is a major supporter of Law Enforcement. His passion is Land Use and Planning. Rural areas are very important to our county. An upcoming urban land study of the I-4 corridor (urban service area study) will be starting in October to look at proper planning for the I-4 corridor as business development and growth comes east out of Tampa. Plant City plays a crucial role in this study and Commissioner White wants to partner with Plant City to ensure the growth maintains Plant City’s history and “small town” feel. Megan Nixon also spoke about the confederate monument moving from downtown Tampa to the Brandon area at a cost of $120,000 and who is going to pay for it. As a “local” commissioner, Stacy White has Plant City’s needs at the forefront of development. Community Appreciation Day 8-5-2017

Plant City Rotary Community Appreciation Day.

Our club held it's 2nd annual Community Appreciation Day on Saturday August 5th

at the Randy Larson Softball Complex on Park Road in Plant City. This free family

event was well attended. Participants enjoyed free food, drinks, bounce houses, rock

climbing walls and a dunk tank. The first 500 kids were able to pick up bags of back

to school supplies. There were demonstrations by the Plant City Police Department,

the Plant City Fire Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department.

Many other groups also participated. Thanks to all the club members, community

members and organizations that made this event a big success. For more photos

Rotary International Board adopts new zone structure
At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians.
