Last weeks program was provided by Beau Walden. Beau’s guest speaker was Master Sargent Lee Robinson with the Sickles JROTC program. Master Sargent Robinson talked about JROTC and the Marksmanship program.The mission of AFJROTC is to "Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community." AFJROTC is not an USAF accessions program and cadets are never under any obligation to join the military. AFJROTC is a Title 10 US Code mandated citizenship training program that is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. The program achieves this through classroom education in air and space fundamentals and hands on learning opportunities in a number of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities.The AFJROTC program is grounded in the Air Force core values of “integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”The program has 878 AFJROTC units with an additional 14 National Defense Cadet Corps units for a total of 892 units in high schools world-wide. There are more than 121,000 high school cadets in the program and over 1,950 retired USAF instructors who lead, mentor, guide, and teach cadets in high schools in the US and around the world. AFJROTC enjoys overwhelming school administration and community support because of the huge positive impact on cadets, schools, communities, and our nation. In many communities that have no military bases within many miles, the cadets and instructors of AFJROTC are truly “The face of the US Air Force in communities all over the US and the world.” JROTC Marksmanship introduces air rifle marksmanship and the sport of shooting; to show how these activities fit into the JROTC program. Rifle Marksmanship is a sport skill where a rifle is aimed, controlled and fired so as to consistently hit a distant, difficult target. It is a sport with a military heritage and is an Olympic sport practiced world-wide. It is a sport that stresses control, discipline, concentration and extreme precision. Regional and National competitions are very competitive and stresses safety above all. Marksmanship is open to all…gender, size, speed, etc. do not determine success. Practice, not ability, makes the difference. It further teaches life skills…discipline, responsibility and rewards of hard work…control and respect for others. Trinity Gomez is one of the students that has had great success in the program. Trinity is the Florida champion with a goal of competing in the 2024 Olympics. It is an expensive hobby with rifles costing anywhere from $3,500 - $5,000. -provided by Mike Arndt

Rotarian Dennis Digamon presented President Jodi Stevens with a banner from the Rotary Club of Nasugbu, Philippines at our last meeting. Dennis and Rotarians Ed Bozeman and Done Stine recently returned from the Philippines where they participated in a dental mission..
