Last week’s program was presented by Rotarian Clayton Jenkins. Clayton’s guest speaker was the Director of the Plant City Pregnancy Care Center, Darlene Davis. Darlene wanted to make it quite clear to the group that they are NOT associated with Planned Parenthood as the Pregnancy Care Center is a Faith Based, non-profit, that works with pregnant women to choose life for their baby and to help them with the struggles of pregnancy and care of newborns. The Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City is a 501(c)3 faith based organization that is supported by churches, businesses, individuals and fundraisers. All services are free to clients. The Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City began its inception on January 27, 1992. The general nature of this non-profit organization was to provide pregnancy and parental counseling. Since June 2009, the center offers "Earn While You Learn", a pre-natal and parenting program that helps moms and dads become the best parents they can be while earning needed baby items. Today, the center offers abstinence education, pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, pre-natal and parenting classes, material assistance, and support services for making an adoption plan, hope for post-abortive, and social services referrals. The Center counsels an average of 150 clients a month.Here is a list of the confidential services offered free of charge: Pregnancy tests and verification, Abstinence Education, Parenting Support, Adoption Options, Abortion alternatives information, Limited Ultrasounds, Earn While You Learn, Prenatal and parenting classes for both women and men, Earn While You Learn in Spanish (40% of clients do not speak English), Material assistance for newborns - 12 months, Peer counseling, Referrals for community resources. In August of 2016 the Center hired its first Full Time Nurse to preform ultrasounds. After seeing their ultrasounds, women who were planning to abort, were 97% more likely to choose life. In 2016 the Center will see more than 6,000 clients and have already seen 5,064 spiritual conversions…Jesus is needed for change. The Center has a great need to expand its “physical footprint” in order to continue to service more clients and to make a difference in the community to choose life. Volunteers are needed, including men, to help talk to, and mentor new fathers. Up until 2009 the Pregnancy Care Center was under the umbrella of the First Baptist Church of Plant City. Currently the Center is standing alone and is funded with the help of all church denominations, with First Baptist still being the main contributor, as clients come from, and represent, many different denominations. Rest In Peace Rick Hinson
Plant City resident and one of the founding members of Southern Star Bluegrass lost his long battle with cancer Sunday morning. Rick is best known to our club for his many performances with Southern Star at our wild game cookout. Rick was a friend to all who knew him. He will be missed. It's that time of year again. The annual Plant City Christmas parade will be this Friday at 7 pm. Our club will once again be providing hot dogs and drinks for the parade participants at the end of the parade. More information and a sign up sheet will be available at Monday's meeting. The email, which stems from a gmail account, is not from Rotary.
