Last week’s program was provided by Rotarian Reggie Holt. Reggie’s guest speaker was Dale McClellan and his daughter-in-law, Andrea McClellan with M&B Products.
As a primary provider of milk in Florida schools, Dale and Andrea updated the club on their efforts to create a variety of milk that more children can tolerate. According to Dale and Andrea, there are two common forms of milk intolerance: lactose intolerance and A1-protein intolerance. In many cases, individuals who believe they are lactose intolerant are actually A1-protein intolerant.
There is no variety of natural milk that lactose intolerant individuals can drink; ultimately they either need to avoid milk products, or take over-the-counter medicines to counteract the affects of consuming milk products (such as lactate, etc.). However, individuals who are A1-protein intolerant can enjoy natural milk that is void of the A1-protein, and only carries the A2-protein. This type of milk can be produced by proper breeding of an A2-protein carrying cow, and an A2-protein carrying bull.
Dale and his team are working very hard to bring an A2-protein milk to market, and specifically to the education system, in a cost effective way so that more children can enjoy the taste and health benefits of milk with their breakfast or lunch.

Citizen of the Year - Jim Scott
