Red Cross - Delivering Our Mission During the Coronavirus Outbreak

Last week’s program was the American Red Cross, presented by Eric Corliss, Regional CEO of the Central Florida & US Virgin Islands Region, and Dr. Ken Guidera, board member of the Tampa Red Cross and fellow Rotarian.
The American Red Cross alleviates human suffering in the face of disaster. The organization is primarily run by volunteers and donors, and provides assistance in the following areas:
Regional disasters, such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, and fires.
Isolated emergencies, such as house fires.
Home repairs; Red Cross services continue after the disaster is over, and remain a resource through the initial clean-up and recovery period.
Preparedness, such as home inspections, emergency plans, etc.
Blood services; the Red Cross accounts for over 40% of blood collection in the US.
Armed Service support, including stress management and skills training.
Training services, such as CPR and nursing training.
We are experiencing extraordinary weather events, and the frequency of these events is desensitizing us. It is important to remember that there are regional and individual disasters every day. For example, today there are over 24,000 people displaced from a hurricane or fire. The Red Cross is committed to respond to these disasters, and bring human care and financial resources to those families so that they can recover as quickly as possible.
