Topic: Ag Programs in Hillsborough County Schools

Last Meeting- Jan. 11th

Last week’s program was presented by Rotarian Rick Gould. Rick’s guest speaker was Joshua J. Myers. J. J. Myers is an emerging leader in the YMCA Movement with a focus on creating opportunities for family growth and community development. Born in Rochester, New York, Myers began his career in sales, but found his niche in the not-for-profit sector with the Y. He has a talent for sales management, fundraising, and staff development. In addition to his role with the YMCA, Myers frequently serves as a motivational coach and conference speaker, having presented on the topics of life and purpose throughout the U.S., Europe, and Eastern Asia. Myers holds a Bachelors in Theatre and Communication from the College at Brockport, SUNY, a Masters in Communication & Media Technologies from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a second Masters Arts Management from the University at Buffalo, SUNY. J.J.’s life experiences, his father was murdered and mother died when he young, prompted him to find “purpose” in his life. Working at the YMCA he finally found his purpose; “…love God, love myself, love others”. The YMCA makes purpose happen through its healthy programs and its generosity in giving more than $300,000 in scholarships to kids and adults who can benefit from them. J.J. encourages everyone to take a self-inventory and ask themselves “what is my purpose?” and “what am I doing to help others”? The YMCA is there to encourage a healthy mind, a healthy body and a healthy spirit. Program Chairman Needed!
Last week President Jeremy announced that our club has an immediate opening for our program chairman. As a reminder, the program chairman coordinates our weekly programs but is not responsible for lining up the speakers. It is the responsibility of the individual Rotarians to line up the speakers. The program chairman is responsible for communicating with club members about their upcoming scheduled meetings, as well as notifying Mike Arndt and Bill Wicker in advance so the speakers can be published in the printed bulletin and this weekly electronic bulletin. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to step up and help our club. If you have any other questions about this position please contact President Jeremy.

Rotary Bonfire Social

On Friday, January 29th we will be having our next Rotary Social at the home of Rotarian Bob Roderick at 823 N. Wilder Road in Plant City. The social will begin around 6:30pm and will include a bonfire, burgers, hotdogs, chicken and all the sides. Get ready for a night of Rotary fellowship fireside. Rotarians, spouses or significant others and perspective Rotarians are welcome to join in on this great event. BYOB. There will be more updates as we get closer to the 29th.

Rotary Valentine's Meeting

Monday Feb. 8th is Bring Your Spouse (or significant other) to Rotary In celebration the upcoming Valentine's Day. Nick Hall is scheduled to be our speaker and will will be giving a presentation about his cross county bicycle trip raising money for Polio Plus. Nick is an interesting individual and it should be an entertaining program. Who know's there may some other surprises that day too!

Rotary honors six women for leadership and humanitarian service
Rotary President K.R. Ravindran has named six Rotary Global Women of Action for 2015. Bringing education to rural Mexican area, one school at a time
When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. And most children weren’t able to go beyond an eighth-grade education. Day, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Bahía de Jaltemba-La Peñita, in Nayarit, had started a local scholarship program before she joined Rotary.
