Last week’s program was presented by Rotarian Keith Smith. Keith’s guest speaker was Alyssa Cerrito, Marketing & Communications Manager with the Plant City Economic Development Corporation. The Plant City Economic Development Corporation is a private organization focused on growing our community, offering opportunities for new and existing businesses that exceed expectations, and creating success in families. In September of 2015 the PCEDC was officially formed to market Eastern Hillsborough County as a premier business destination along central Florida’s I-4 corridor. Through public and private investments, the PCEDC aggressively recruits new companies while facilitating expansions of local companies. Through its investors, the PCEDC partners with other government and civic organizations to ensure Plant City grows in a smart and sustainable fashion while staying true to its culture and history. The number one goal of the PCEDC is to aggressively market Plant City for commercial, office, distribution, light industrial, agri-business, and retail opportunities. The PCEDC currently has 38 projects in the pipeline with 4 in the finalization phase. Toufayon bakeries expansion is going forward with Thomas Bagels. This is a $30 million investment and estimates to create 35 new jobs. Dart Container is expanding to the new Commerce Center on County Line Road and creating 35 new jobs. The Central Florida Commerce Center is building another warehouse/office center purely on spec. Investor activity in the PCEDC is made up of 39% public funds and 61% private investing. The PCEDC is very active in the economic industry with conferences, ground breakings and job fairs with speakers, interviews and on site interviews. Marketing and Branding Identity of the PCEDC, with a new logo, highlights Plant City’s unique logistics and distribution location and the advertising campaign to showcase the area community profile in industry magazines and quarterly newsletters. Installation Banquet
The installation and Awards Banquet was held this past Thursday evening. Those in attendance shared a great night of Rotary Fellowship. Pictures of the event are available on our website in the Installation Banquet photo album. There would be a full story here with photos but the website decided to eat it after an hour of work even though it had been previously saved. Oh well. When Teguest Yilma helped found the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa Entoto in 2002, she thought polio had already been eradicated from most of the world.
