Last Meeting's Program

Last week’s program was provided by Rotarian Shawn Jemison. Shawn’s guest speaker was Josh Bullock with the XFL’s new expansion team, the Tampa Bay Vipers!

The Tampa Bay Vipers is a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. The team is an owned-and-operated member of the XFL (2020) begun by Vince McMahon of World Wrestling Entertainment. The team will play its home games at Raymond James Stadium, along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL and the University of South Florida Bulls. The team will be headquartered at Plant City Stadium in Plant City, Florida, where players will be housed and practices held.

The season will begin in February, 2020, the week after the Superbowl. It will be a 10 game season with 8 different franchise teams. Two, 4 team divisions. All the games will be broadcast on ESPN, ABC and FOX, with two games on Saturdays, an early and a late game, and two games on Sundays, one early game and one late game. A playoff and championship will be held at the end of the season, April 26,2020.

The XFL intends to make a few “tweaks” to the traditional NFL rules to make the game exciting to watch with a faster pace. Shorter time between plays and 1, 2 and 3 point options for after a touchdown to make sure all teams have a chance to win each game. Faster pace, “less stall and more ball”! The XFL goal is to make the league more Fan/Family friendly with inexpensive tickets and game packages, accessibility to players and coaches and community involvement.

The league is looking for players of character, not just players of skills. The XFL knows they are fighting for the entertainment dollar and are very conscious that the fan’s need to be involved. They want the fans to be part of the decision making. Plant City will be home to Tampa Bay Vipers football operations. Starting December 3 there will be over 75 players, coaches, administration and support people in Plant City for five months. It’s going to be a great addition to Plant City and the entire Tampa Bay area. Go out and support the Tampa Bay Vipers!

Revenue for the recent Dancing with the Locals was over $100,000! This was the largest DWTL’s yet with over 480 people attending. Many people have expressed that it was the best ever! Great job everyone in the club who contributed to this success!

Casey Stidham and Stephanie Eisenbach won the Judges award and raised the most money. Thank you Casey and Stephanie for all your efforts!

Congratulations to all the dancers and the tremendous effort, and fundraising, for this event. Please be sure to reach out to them and continue to thank them for their dedication to this event!
