Our last program was provided by Rotarian Lewis Marshall.  Lew’s guest speaker was Yvonne Fry of “Fry Entertainment” and “Lines of Communication” and Yvonne is a community activist for women and children throughout the area. Yvonne founded Lines of Communication, a consulting business that helps governments and large- and medium-sized companies streamline their phone and data systems.  She also chairs the board at the Spring and is on the Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women and the Florida Commission on the Status of Women.  Fry Entertainment was established in 2011 to develop fresh picked talent for local and state projects along with developing models and other talent.  Yvonne is working to develop legislation that will help develop our local area for more film incentives that will result in Hollywood films using local talent and crew’s.  As a community activist, Yvonne is driven to help women, children and the community as a whole.  There is a lot of creative talent in our community that can be a huge economic driver if it can be tapped and established.  Yvonne is working to develop a group called “Plant City Creatives” where creative people can network together to be successful in their talent areas.  Yvonne’s work with several PTA’s is important in developing and taking care of the kids in our community as they are our future.  A strong base of kids can make a huge impact on our community.  The three Plant City High Schools do a great job, but with new PCHS Principal, Susan Sullivan, we should look for even greater things but only with the help of the community.  Three High Schools has greatly divided the students among socio-economic lines and they need our support.  Yvonne has also developed “Frameworks” of Tampa Bay…a way of tracking youth through social and emotional intelligence.  Women’s issues continue to be an issue in our area.  Sex Trafficking, domestic violence and pay equity all are issues affecting women.  Women need to be empowered to make positive strides because they do have a responsibility in their own outcomes.  Women’s health issues, particularly nutrition, continues to be a problem to contend with along with transportation limitations in order for women to be successful.  Our community needs to be supportive to help impact these women and children issues as it is very important to our community.

Installation Banquet
The annual club installation banquet was this past Thursday on the Lone Palm Country Club in Lakeland.  It was a nice night of celebrating this past years accomplishments as well as installing the officers for the coming year.  Thanks you to those that were able to attend this important annual function.

Plant City Rotary Foundation Meeting
July 20, 2015, will be the annual meeting of the Plant City Rotary Foundation.  As all Rotary members are also members of the Rotary Foundation, your attendance at this meeting is important.  This meeting will be part of our regular weekly meeting.
