Last Week's Meeting - Sept. 28th

Our last program was provided by Rotarian Jim Scott. Jim’s guest speaker was Brian Bradley of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brian came to the Lightning in the 1992 expansion year and scored the first goal in Lightning franchise history. He retired in 1999 after 18 years in the NHL and has now been with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization for 22 years. Bradley was originally drafted in the 3rd round (51st overall) by the Calgary Flames back in 1983. His rookie season wouldn’t come until 1986 and he saw very limited action (only 6 games, though he did make an appearance in the 1986 Stanley Cup final), though he would follow that up with a solid 28 points in 40 games as a sophomore. However, he couldn’t find any room on a stacked Flames squad that was just two years away from winning a Stanley Cup, so Bradley spent the majority of the 1987-88 season playing on the Canadian national team before being dealt to the Vancouver Canucks. With the Lightning Bradley had a great career and is remembered as one of the all time greats in Lightning history. Bradley is very optimistic that the Lightning can return to the Stanley Cup finals next year as the team has all the same players as last year. He believes that next year the Lightning should win! He believes that Ben Bishop in goal and Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson and several others are the best in the league. The Palat, Kucherov, Johnson line was the best in the league last year and they will be together again next year. Coach Jon Cooper is a winning coach and has won wherever he has coached and the players have great respect for him. Bradley is very “pro” owner Jeff Vinik. He believes that Vinik is very committed to the city and the fans and is serious about bringing the Stanley Cup back to Tampa Bay.

Bringing education to rural Mexican area, one school at a time
When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. Nigeria sees no wild polio cases for one year
Today marks one year since Nigeria last reported a polio case caused by wild poliovirus, putting the country on the brink of eradicating the paralyzing disease. The last case was reported on 24 July 2014 in the northern state of Kano.
