Next there was a great dinner. Dessert was provided by Brian West and Publix in the form of a huge cake that included a rotating Rotary wheel.
Following dinner President Brett introduced P.C. Rotarian and Assistant District Governor Clayton Jenkins who made a few remarks about our club and its proud heritage.
Next the awards portion of the night began with the handing out of perfect attendance pins, followed by recognition of the outgoing board members (James Boyd and Bill Wicker) and outgoing officers (Jodi Stevens -Treasurer and Doug Watson- Secretary.)
Our club had two very successful fundraisers this year. The next item on the program was recognition of the chairmen of those two events.
Jodi Stevens and Doug Watson was recognized as the chairmen of the Dancing With the Locals fundraiser
and James Surrency and Brian Griffin were recognized as Chairmen of the Wild Game Cookout.
Next it was time for special awards. First, Bill Wicker was recognized for always being there to provide information and guidance relating to procedures and club history and was presented the Fountain of Knowledge Extraordinaire award.
Next, the Rising Star Award was awarded to a new member that has done an exemplary job as a new Rotarian. This year the award went to Josh Jimenez.
The next award, The Spirit of Service award was presented to James Surrency for always being the go to guy when help is needed on any project.
The last special award was Rotarian of the Year. This award goes to a club member that best exemplifies the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self! This year’s recipient was certainly well deserving of the honor. Our club took great joy in providing the Rotarian of the Year Award to Charles Harris!
Following the award portion of the evening, Outgoing President Brett gave an address summarizing the year and thanking the club for all the work put forth this year.
Next, Assistant District Governor Clayton Jenkins administered the oath to incoming President Jody Stevens.
Newly installed President Jodi then administered the oath to the officers and board for 2018-19. The officers for the coming year are Doug Watson – President-elect / Treasurer, Immediate Past-President – Brett Mueller, Secretary – John Haney and Sgt-at-arms – James Boyd. The board includes Brian Griffin, Bill Hughes and Clayton Jenkins – 1 year term; Gregg Bucknor, Randy Larson and Jim Scott – 2 year terms; and Charles Harris, Josh Jimenez and Bill Wicker – 3 year terms.
Next on the agenda, President Jodi Stevens spoke to the club. She gave an impassioned speech about her long-time friend Plant City Rotarian David Miller.
David was a friend to all and an active member in our club. Even though he is no longer with us, his presence was certainly felt that night.
She then went on to talk about her hopes for our club this year.
As she concluded her remarks she thanked and presented the outgoing President’s plaque to Brett.
President Jodi ended the evening by thanking everyone for attendance and dismissing the banquet.
