Last weeks program was provided by Rotarian Nate Kilton.  Our scheduled speaker was not able to attend.  The meeting started with our two representatives to S4TL and World Affairs.  Delaney Flowers was or delegate to S4TL.  Delaney thanked the club for giving her the opportunity to attend this year’s conference.  She said it was a great experience and enjoyed the guest speakers and gave her a “new” perspective on the world.  Anna Futch was our representative to World Affairs at Auburn University.  Anna was given the opportunity to exercise her speaking skills and debate skills as a representative of China.  They researched and debated some complicated issues from their countries standpoint including; chemical warfare, cobalt mining and clean water.  Anna also thanked the club for this opportunity to grow and build confidence.

Last week was also our annual meeting of the Plant City Rotary Foundation.  The meeting was called to order by President Charles White.  The foundation was started in 2003 and all members of the Plant City Rotary Club are members of the Foundation.  We did have a quorum present and President White reviewed the minutes from last year.  Three “at-large trustee’s” were elected and the annual report was read.  Treasurer, Don Stine, was not in attendance to read the financial report so, the meeting will be continued next week.

Rotarian Dr. Bill Wicker was our “Member Spotlight” speaker.  Bill was born in Sanford, North Carolina, the “brick capital of the world” in 1958.  Bill’s parents were very active in the community and instilled the “Rotary” ethic in Bill.  Bill was the youngest of three siblings in a musical family that traveled around singing at local churches.  Bill received degrees from NC State University in animal science and zoology.  Bill was accepted to Auburn University Veterinary program, met his wife, and graduated in 1984.  Bill and his wife moved to Florida and in 1988 opened Plant City Animal Hospital.  Long time Rotarian, Vic Kohlmeier, introduced Bill to Rotary.  Bill is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and believes that in Rotary, as well as in life, “you get out of it what you put into it”.  -provided by Mike Arndt
