Last  Meeting's Program

Last Weeks program was provided by Rotarian Tatyana Austin.  Tatyana’s guest speaker was Gena Torres, Transportation Consultant working for Hillsborough County MPO (Metropolitan Planning Organization).  Gena Torres spoke to the club about the Hillsborough County 2045 Ling-Range Transportation Plan. The Hillsborough County Planning Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization both require population, employment and other demographic and scenario-based projection data to the year 2045 to facilitate their state and federally mandated work efforts.  In addition to supporting the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Model development, the data also supports the missions of other agencies including the Hillsborough County School Board, HART, Fire/EMS, Parks and Recreation, and Utilities.  The Planning Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization jointly obtained the services of a consultant (Cambridge Systematics, Inc.) to develop and evaluate alternative potential growth scenarios, support a facilitated scenario evaluation process, and develop a preferred “hybrid” population/employment projection scenario to support the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and other planning functions of the MPO, Planning Commission and other agencies within the county. Live, work, play, or go to school in Hillsborough County? We need your input in this important survey! Every voice matters. PLEASE take and share this survey through 07.28.19! Participants who complete the survey and leave a valid email address are eligible for drawings for pairs of tickets to local professional baseball, football, and hockey tickets! Drawings will be held during the 08.06.19 Hillsborough MPO Board Meeting (9AM,  26th floor, County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd.).  The Survey is very important for planning for our area and your input is critical.  Some issues the survey looks at include:  Hillsborough County will grow to over 2 million people by 2045. How will we get around? It’s TIME for more transportation choices. Tell us what transportation investments are most important to you. Transit as an alternative to driving
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) provides fast, high-quality bus service.  BRT typically includes pleasant stations, shorter wait times, modern vehicles, smart technology, and speedier trips. Tell us what roads you want BRT on. Major investments: Select the projects you feel should be a priority for further study or suggest a different one. These projects are designed to reduce congestion and may include walk and bike facilities. Downtown interchanges: The I-4/I-275 interchange has unreliable congestion and severe crashes. Changes to it impact business districts and neighborhoods which are revitalizing, historic, and/or have vulnerable populations.  If you want a say in the future development of our area, take the survey and make your thoughts count!
