Last Meeting- April 10th

Last week’s program was presented by Rotarian Adam Myers. Adam was unable to attend the meeting so the speaker was introduced by John Haney. Adam’s guest speaker was Torrey Chambliss, International Trade Specialist with Port Tampa Bay. Handling more than 37 million tons of cargo in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2016 – nearly one-third of all cargo moving in and out of the state of Florida. This embraces virtually every imaginable commodity, including vehicles and oversized project cargos, from all corners of the world. Top trade partners include Brazil, Trinidad, Mexico, Honduras, Canada, India , Japan, Colombia, China, and Venezuela. At the same time, the Port of Tampa Bay has emerged among the top eight U.S. cruise ports, smoothly handling nearly 900,000 passenger moves a year. The Port is the driving force of the supply chain serving Florida and the world. There are over 5,000 acres of land for the Port use making it Florida’s largest port in terms of tonnage and acreage. 37 million tons of cargo go through the port each year with a very diverse mix of cargo…energy products, fertilizer, etc. It is also a major ship repair center and cruise terminal. Over $17 billion of economic impact for the area with 85,000 jobs impacted by the Port. With a concentration on trade, logistics and manufacturing, the Tampa Bay core market includes 25 counties, 10 million people and over 100 million tourists. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Central Florida (Tampa/Orlando) has the 10^th largest economy in the U.S. with a GDP of more than $300 billion. Port Tampa growth and features includes; Container Terminal Expansion (Gantry cranes/mobile harbor cranes for containers), Highway and Rail connectivity (less than 2 miles to the interstate via direct truck ramp to get on the road quicker), Cold Storage facility for agricultural and perishable items, direct, non-stop service to Mexico (takes trucks off the road). The Port is also a major Free Trade Zone for businesses to maximize their logistic strategies resulting in jobs and positive financial impact to the Tampa Bay area. The Port is not just a “port”, but rather an important part of the supply chain for the Southeast United States and the world. -submitted by Mike Arndt

The wrap meeting related to the Wild Game Cookout will be held this Tuesday at 5:30 at Brian Griffin's House.

**** Very Important Wild Game wrap up ****

#1- It is very important to turn in any unsold tickets and money for ticket sales right away.

#2- Receipts for expenses that need to be reimbursed should be submitted to Brett Mueller. Each individual should submit a sheet of paper listing the expenses and who should be reimbursed with the attached receipts. Please do not turn in an unorganized wad of receipts.

#3- All committees should prepare a report and turn it in. This report should contain all information related to their committee. Who was on the committee, what supplies were ordered (and do any of those need to be increased or decreased for next year's event, What is the process for preparing your final product (this should be detailed enough that if no one on your committee was available others could step in and complete the necessary steps), is there anything that needs to be done differently the next year?

Please send me any photos you have taken during the preparation for the cookout, during the event, or during the clean up.
