This Week's Program

Speaker: Unknown at Time of Publication

 Rotarian : Randy Hyman

Last Meeting

Last week’s program was presented by Rotarian Sophia Hyde.  Sophia’s guest speaker was Plant City Manager, Bill McDaniel. Bill McDaniel was appointed to serve as City Manager effective on January 23, 2018.  He has over 30 years of local government experience with the City of Plant City, most recently serving as the Assistant City Manager since 2013.  Bill previously served the Plant City Police Department as Chief of Police from 1996 to 2012; Police Captain from 1994 to 1996; Police Sergeant from 1989 to 1994; and Police Officer from 1985 to 1989.  Some of his accomplishments included: securing the Police Department’s initial State Accreditation and two additional state reacrreditations during his tenure as Chief of Police; and being selected as Police Officer of the Year in 1987. Bill earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, Florida.  He also is a member of International City/County Management Association and the Florida City & County Management Association.  As City Manager Bill is looking at improvements for the city based on 5 core strategies: Economic Development – this is primary and will be accomplished by streamlining government interface, cutting “red tape”, maximizing opportunities and applying these principles to both existing and new businesses.  Community Engagement – working together through proactive outreach, inclusions, partnerships and listening to dialogue.  Customer Service – The City provides services, these services should have excellent customer service and will be accomplished by; one-touch service delivery, employing technology to maximize services, be “true” to our values (teamwork, integrity, etc.) and to continually improve.  Communication – encourage effective communication by maximizing the platform…social media, internet, etc.  Organizational Effectiveness – internal operations need to be organized and effective and look for ways to “future proof” the city’s internal organization.  Small projects make a large impact.  Striping parking/streets and cleaning sidewalks may be small issues but make a big impact.  There are many projects underway now – road resurfacing, new fire station, new community center, Midtown, sports village to name just a few.  Plant City is a city on the rise and with a great City Manager we can accomplish great things!
