Our last program was presented by Rotarian Adam Myers.  Adam’s guest speaker was U.S. Congressman, Dennis Ross. Dennis served as a State Representative until 2008. Now, as a third term U.S. Congressman, he serves as a Senior Deputy Majority Whip and on the Financial Services Committee.   At the beginning of the 113th Congress, Dennis was selected to serve on the prestigious Financial Services Committee, another selection that doesn't often happen to newer members. Finally, during the summer of 2014, Dennis was selected as a Senior Deputy Majority Whip under Majority Whip Steve Scalise, a leadership position that allows him to better serve his Florida constituents as a conservative voice at the leadership table. Dennis gave us a congressional update of the 113^th congress.  So far 62 bills have passed and even a few bi-partisan bills have passed that were then vetoed by the president.  The budget was also passed but again vetoed by the president.  The affordable care act and gay marriage were Supreme Court decisions, not congressional.  The most compelling issue at this time is the Iran Nuclear deal.  Dennis is against it and thinks it is a bad deal.  His belief is that congress will not approve it, the president will veto their rejection and congress will then vote to “override” the veto.  To override the veto will be difficult as the override needs 290 House votes and 67 Senator votes.  Dennis believes it will be difficult but be successful.  The Iran nuclear deal is bad and could be the beginning of a new “cold war”.  Dennis is also committed to reducing government intrusion and reducing the nation’s debt.  Dennis is a conservative leader with strong views on Agriculture, the Constitution, Education, Energy, Family Values, Health Care, Immigration, National Security, Protecting our Seniors, Taxes, Spending, and our Economy, and Veterans Affairs.  Dennis spells out his views on these subjects very well in his website: www.dennisross.house.gov

Plant City Rotary Foundation Meeting
The annual meeting of the Plant City Rotary Foundation was held Monday, July 20th.  Due to scheduling conflicts a motion was passed to continue the meeting over to August 3rd.  All Plant City Rotary members are also members of the Rotary Foundation so your attendance at this meeting is important.  This meeting will be part of our regular weekly meeting.

Rotary at the Rays will be this Tuesday July 28th.  The club provided bus will be leaving from Paradise Fruit for the trip to the Trop at 5:15 sharp!  Contact Randy Gordon about last minute ticket availability.  This is always a fun night of baseball and fellowship.  Don't miss out!

Temple Terrace Rotarian Nick Hall is riding his bicycle solo from Oceanside, California to St. Augustine, Florida to raise awareness and funds for Polio Eradication.  The goal is to raise at least $33,333 which when matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation would net $100,000 to the Polio Eradication efforts.  Follow Nick’s progress on Facebook at “Pedal Power to End Polio”.  To see where he is currently go to his Spot Ap page.
