Plant City Rotary 2015 Installation and Awards Banquet

Outgoing President- Brian Griffin / Incoming President-Jeremy Burris

On Thursday June 25th our club held its annual Installation Banquet. Outgoing President Brian Griffin welcomed everyone and the meeting began in traditional Plant City Rotary fashion with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of God Bless America. After happy bucks, dinner was served.

Following dinner, President Brian introduced the head table and then remarks were made by Assistant District Governor Rob Evans.

Following AG Evans remarks we moved into the awards portion of the evening. As usual a large number of our members were presented perfect attendance pins. Plaques were presented to the chairmen of our 2 biggest fundraisers: Dancing With The Locals- Marcus Caswell and Brett Mueller,

and Wild Game Cookout- James Surrency and Brian Griffin.

Plaques were also presented to the outgoing officers. Two special recognition awards were also presented. Rotarian Jodi Stevens was presented a Service Award in recognition of outstanding service and dedication to our club this year

and Rotarian Tim Kip was presented the Rotarian of The Year award for exemplary service to our club this past year.

After remarks by outgoing President Brian,

the next item on the agenda was the installation of officers. First AG Rob installed our new President, Jeremy Burris.

Next, the other officers and board members were sworn in. This year's officers, in addition to Jeremy, include Immediate Past President- Brian Griffin, Treasurer and President-Elect- Charles Harris, Secretary- Brett Mueller and Sergeant-at-arms- Billy Riddle. This year's Board of Directors includes: Matt Buzza, Brett Mueller, Jodi Stevens (1 year term); Kyle Robinson, Beau Walden, Michael Watkins (2 year term); and James Boyd, Billy Riddle, Bill Wicker (3 year term.)

Last but not least were remarks by newly installed President Jeremy.

Jeremy hopes to continue the good works that our club has accomplished in the past. In addition, Jeremy plans to focus on membership retention and continued development of members that are actively engaged in our club. As the sun set on the Lone Palm Country Club and another successful year, this next year promises to an exciting one

Last Meeting

Our last program was provided by Rotarian Mac McGrath. Mac’s guest speaker was Chase Lott of “Chase N Tail”. Chase is an avid outdoor sportsman who is looking to take what he loves, and is good at, to make into a career and is actively searching to eventually have an outdoor sportsman program on television. From fishing, hunting, wake boarding, and snow boarding or anything outdoors. Chase says: “as an outdoor sportsman I love to share my experiences and accomplishments with everybody whether that be hunting, fishing, water/snow sports, or just fun outdoor activities.” “My goal is to be the best outdoorsman there is. Everybody has something that they're good at and they love doing. Chase-N-Tail reaches out to everybody who wants to find their identity and what their niche is. As a young adult Chase attempts to make every adventure as fun as it can be and influence people to get out of the house and enjoy God's world. Chase is a 17 year old who has a strong love for the outdoors. He calls himself Chase-N-Tail because he “chase’s” all "tail" the outdoors has to offer. His goal is to create an audience to support a T.V. show that features the versatile quality of my outdoor adventures.

“Being 17 years old I prove myself to reach all audiences; that being kids, teens, girls, adults, and of course the sportsmen.” “With that quality, my work helps bring traffic to my sponsors and helps expand their business to a new variety of customers.” “With the help of social media I am rapidly gaining popularity and an audience for Chase-N-Tail.” Chase has several sponsors and is looking for more. His current sponsors include; Mammoth Coolers, Consolidated Electrical Distributors, Inc., Reel Adrenalin, and M-80 chum. Installation Banquet
The annual club installation banquet was this past Thursday on the Lone Palm Country Club in Lakeland. It was a nice night of celebrating this past years accomplishments as well as installing the officers for the coming year. Thanks you to those that were able to attend this important annual function.

Plant City Rotary Foundation Meeting
July 20, 2015, will be the annual meeting of the Plant City Rotary Foundation. As all Rotary members are also members of the Rotary Foundation, your attendance at this meeting is important. This meeting will be part of our regular weekly meeting.

Early cancer detection is saving lives in Sri Lanka
More than 20,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year in Sri Lanka, and many of them prove fatal. The Rotary Club of Colombo, Sri Lanka, set out 10 years ago to save some of those lives by establishing the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Centre. Rotary releases $40.3 million for polio immunization activities
Rotary is releasing $40.3 million in grants to support polio immunization activities in 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan, three countries where the disease has never been stopped. The funds will help build on gains Rotary and its partners have been making in the fight to eradicate polio. Nigeria hasn’t seen a polio case since 24 July and the World Health Organization could remove it from the list of polio-endemic countries as soon as September if no cases are reported. Knocking down language barriers
Before the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Russian was the predominant second language offered in Polish schools, leaving tens of thousands of Polish emigrants without the English skills they needed. That has changed over the last 25 years. English proficiency drastically improved after the government reformed its education system in 1991. Member benefits program unveiled as convention draws to a close
RI President-elect K.R. Ravindran introduced a member benefits program at the 9 June closing session of the 2015 Rotary International Convention, saying that many more hands are needed to continue Rotary’s work around the world.
