“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
This year's Rotary International Convention is being held in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 10 to June 14. Rotarians from around the world will be convening to share stories, learn about youth programs, exchange ideas about peace and conflict resolution and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation. I looks to be a very festive occasion.
In 2017-18, we’ll answer the question “What is Rotary?” with RI President-elect Ian H.S. Riseley’s theme, Rotary: Making a Difference. “Whether we’re building a new playground or a new school, improving medical care or sanitation, training conflict mediators or midwives, we know that the work we do will change people’s lives — in ways large and small — for the better.”
The month of February is very special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution (formerly World Understanding) Month.
Participation Ideas:
Offer support to marginalized groups that are at risk of violence or persecution.
Identify triggering or accelerating factors in the conflict and work to mitigate them.
Provide relief to those who have fled areas of conflict.
Help children who have been orphaned, injured, or traumatized by conflict.
Incorporate conflict resolution and mediation strategies into service projects involving local schools, orphanages, workplaces, and community centers.
Recruit candidates for a Rotary Peace Fellowship. Up to 100 peace fellowships are offered annually at Rotary Peace Centers at universities around the world.
Pursue projects that address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tensions, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.
Participate in fellowship and service activities with Rotary clubs in other parts of the world to promote understanding and peace.
Special Days:
4 World Cancer Day: (DPT)
23 Rotary’s anniversary
The 2018 Rotary Peace Fellowship application is now available! Our new online application will streamline the submission and review process and help districts manage the increasing number of Rotary Peace Fellowship applications.
Users of the new application can expect:
Better functionality and design
A district dashboard for reviewing and endorsing applications and communicating with applicants
Automated email communications from the platform
Technical support and training from our platform provider, Embark
A sign-in process that is separate from My Rotary and other Rotary databases and applications
Please note that the application is in English only, and we will no longer be able to accept PDF applications. As a Rotary leader, you play a key role in communicating information about the peace centers program to club and district leaders, who help identify and nominate candidates for the fellowships. We encourage you to use and share these resources:
Candidates have until 31 May to submit applications to their district. Districts must submit endorsed applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July. Should you need technical support in this transition, please contact Embark at support@embark.com. General inquiries regarding the fellowship program may be sent to rotarypeacecenters@rotary.org. We thank you for your dedication to the Rotary Peace Centers and your continuous support in educating the Rotary network about the fellowships!
Whether it's a high profile company, an established conglomerate or a local club, everybody has a hard time keeping their best and brightest to stay. Let's face it, retaining members is a difficult task. However, in order to retain members, we have to understand why members choose to leave in the first place.
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Service.
"Having fun while helping others is what Rotary is all about. Too often we forget that giving of our money, our time, and our talent to help others through The Rotary Foundation and through local community service projects is one of the most important ways that Rotarians have fun. Sometimes it is working together on a local hands-on service project or fundraiser. Sometimes it is informing people about all that Rotary does for both the world and our local community through The Rotary Foundation. And sometimes it is just that warm, satisfied feeling that comes from knowing we are helping others." — Rotarian Ronn Kerr
The Bylaws of Rotary International require that the governor-elect of each district, in cooperation with the current governor, schedule and conduct a training seminar for the incoming club presidents of the district, preferably in March. This two- or three-day Presidents-elect Training Seminar, commonly referred to by its acronym, PETS, is a motivational and leadership training session designed to prepare the future club presidents for the office they will assume on 1 July. Among the subjects covered are the presentation of the RI theme for the coming year as well as information about effective service projects and The Rotary Foundation. Time is also devoted to reviewing the role and responsibilities of a club president. Incoming club presidents also learn about goal-setting, selection and preparation of club officers, club administration, membership recruitment and orientation, and RI and district resources.
In some areas of the world, two or more neighboring districts conduct Multidistrict PETS. Multidistrict PETS groups have found that their larger numbers help them attract popular Rotary speakers, provide incoming presidents with a perspective beyond the district, and generate more diverse strategies for effective club leadership.

The club has fundraisers and service events coming up!
Give our Club all the support you can to make it successful. We need all cylinders firing!!! Please do what you can to serve our club. If you not being asked to serve the club, ask where you can help!
Participate in Every Rotarian Every Year. Any amount you can contribute will help the success of Rotary International in your community and around the world. Let's try to become a 100% EREY club, where every member contributes something to the Rotary Foundation, either directly or through the club.
Think of another way in which you could serve our club, or help a committee chair with some of their responsibilities. Abby and Kathy are assembling the team for the next Rotary year. Help them in any way that you can, even if you have not been asked.
