Quote of the Week

“Service which is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served. But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

March is Water and Sanitation Month
More than 2.5 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation facilities. At least 3,000 children die each day from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water. Our projects give communities the ability to develop and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems and support studies related to water and sanitation.

Special Days:
8 International Women’s Day - (BEL/MCH)
13 Week of 13 March – Rotaract’s anniversary (NewGens)
21 World Down's Syndrome : (MCH)
22 World Water Day (UN) (WAS)

Celebrate with us in Atlanta

This year's Rotary International Convention is being held in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 10 to June 14.  Rotarians from around the world will be convening to share stories, learn about youth programs, exchange ideas about peace and conflict resolution and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation.  I looks to be a very festive occasion.

For more information visit the Rotary International Convention website.

Rotary International Theme for 2017-18
In 2017-18, we’ll answer the question “What is Rotary?” with RI President-elect Ian H.S. Riseley’s theme, Rotary: Making a Difference. “Whether we’re building a new playground or a new school, improving medical care or sanitation, training conflict mediators or midwives, we know that the work we do will change people’s lives — in ways large and small — for the better.”

Remove the unofficial “reserved signs” at weekly meetings.

How many clubs have you visited which has a chair “reserved for Charlie” because he has sat there every week for twenty years?  In many clubs there are tables of very close Rotary friends who regularly sit at the same spot week after week. Of course they enjoy Rotary with their friends. But these Rotarians seldom meet a visitor, a guest or potential member, because they just enjoy Rotary with their few close friends. They never make an effort to greet a new friend or welcome a newcomer. It is quite possible to go into a club with a room half filled with Rotarians that prospective members, guests or even new members may never meet. A closed circle of friends is not the kind of fellowship we should find or expect in Rotary, especially if we are trying to put out the welcome mat to up-and-coming business and professional men and women. And the amazing thing is that there are so many other Rotarians in the Club that the “closed table group” would also enjoy -- if they would merely welcome them into their circle.

Open fellowship is a key factor of a Rotary Club which hopes to attract new members.

Rotary Foundation Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Supporting the Foundation.

"Most Rotarians have humanitarian goals they want to achieve. And they know that giving to the Foundation allows Rotarians to do extraordinary things worldwide that they normally couldn・t do themselves. Those extraordinary things are what make our Rotary Foundation so critical in today's troubled world, and your support is what makes it possible to continue this vital work."— 2004-05 RI President Glenn E. Estess Sr.

The ABC's of Rotary

Presidential Conferences

From time to time, Rotarians see promotional literature announcing a presidential or regional peace conference to be held some place in the world. Such a conference is quite similar to the annual Rotary International convention but smaller in attendance and serving Rotarians and guests in a region that is a considerable distance from the site of the international convention.

The purpose of an RI presidential conference is to develop and promote acquaintance, friendship, and understanding among the attendees, as well as to facilitate the development of international service projects, and provide a forum to discuss and exchange ideas about Rotary and activities to promote goodwill and understanding. A few peace conferences have actually initiated peaceful relations among nations with historic conflicts. Presidential conferences are considered special events on the Rotary calendar and are not held on any regular schedule. The conferences are arranged by a committee appointed by the RI president.

Rotarians from all parts of the world are always welcome to attend. Participating in a presidential conference in another region is an enjoyable, rewarding, and fascinating experience that provides another opportunity to enjoy the international fellowship of Rotary.

Opportunities to give service

The club has fundraisers and service events coming up!

Give our Club all the support you can to make it successful.  We need all cylinders firing!!!  Please do what you can to serve our club.  If you not being asked to serve the club, ask where you can help!

Participate in Every Rotarian Every Year.  Any amount you can contribute will help the success of Rotary International in your community and around the world.  Let's try to become a 100% EREY club, where every member contributes something to the Rotary Foundation, either directly or through the club.

Think of another way in which you could serve our club, or help a committee chair with some of their responsibilities.  Abby and Kathy are assembling the team for the next Rotary year.  Help them in any way that you can, even if you have not been asked.

Participation is the key to an effective club!!!!

Serve Early, Serve Often!
