Not only does our club enjoy the many presenters who come to our club to speak but also enjoy welcoming the installation of new members and classification talks. A few days ago we welcomed with open arms our newest member Catherine Talarico to the Rotary Club of Newtown. Catherine's background is in fundraising and will be working with Paul Salvatore in terms of fundraising opportunities and sponsorships. We also heard inspirational classifications talks from Cathy Agasar and Karen Platts as they told us about their lives, goals and professions.
Coming off a wonderful evening last night at Warwick Brewery and the Beer Release Party to Eradicate Polio, tomorrow our annual Pedals for Progress event happens at the Olde Saint Andrew Church parking lot on Sycamore Street in Newtown. Thank you to Jerry Agasar and Allen Fidler for coordinating this. In the past we have accumulated over 200 bicycles and sewing machines which are shipped to 3rd world countries where a bicycle is an important economic tool for many of the citizens to get to work.
Our C4C is on Thursday October 23rd from 5:30pm-7pm at the Clubhouse Bar and Grill on South State Street in Newtown. We spotlight our Pedals for Progress event and donations raised (we ask every member, visitor and guest for minimum $10 donation) will offset the costs/shipping of those bicycles and sewing machines overseas.
There is no meeting the week of October 27th but if you have the Rotary itch, just download the Rotary Club Locator app and visit a regional club. This is a great opportunity to spread the gospel of the largest and most dynamic service club in the area.
Service above self.

Lunch Meeting - 10/15
Please join us for our Lunch Meeting at the American Legion from 12:15-1:30pm on Wednesday, October 15th. We will get all caught up with Club happenings via Committee Chair updates. We are heading into our "busy season" so it will be great to get up to speed! We are also excited to induct New Members and hear three Classification Speeches as well! Bring $16 for a delicious Joe Garvey lunch, see you there! Also be prepared to be festive as this lunch will feature a Halloween theme!
Please join the Newtown Rotary Club for our annual Pedals for Progress Service project! On Saturday, October 18th, we will set up in the parking lot across the street from the Olde St. Anthony's Church located at 135 S. Sycamore Street from 9:00am - 12:00pm. During this time, we will be collecting adult and kids bicycles and sewing machines to send to developing countries around the world. These items will enable education and vocation for families in these countries. Bicycles allow students to get to school and adults to get to their jobs - things that we take for granted here in the United States. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Jerry Agasar at drjerry@agasarfamilywellcare.com. Please sign up for a shift below!
Please join us for the next Book Club on Sunday, October 19th from 3:00-5:00pm! This month's selection is "All The Beauty In The World", by Patrick Bringley. It was named one of the best books of the year and is an “exquisite”, “hauntingly beautiful” portrait of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and its treasures by a former New Yorker staffer who spent a decade as a museum guard. Stay tuned for the location but we wanted to share this right away so we can start reading! Please join us for some robust discussion and fellowship - it really is a great time! Please contact Laurel Collins at laurel8690@yahoo.com for details!
Please join us for our October Camaraderie for a Cause at Clubhouse Grill from 5:30-7:00pm. Our fundraising will focus on raising funds to cover the Pedals for Progress shipping costs of the bikes and sewing machines we collect through this service project. Each bike costs $20 to ship to select underserved countries and we always collect over 300 bikes and sewing machines! We appreciate strong attendance at this event so bring your $10, a bunch of friends and let's have some fun! Thank you in advance.
Please join us for our Fall Food Drive on Saturday, October 25 to benefit Wrightstown Food Pantry! The Newtown Rotary Club was proud to participate in Newtown's annual "Market Day" organized by the Newtown Historic Association! This was a great opportunity for us to create awareness for our club and showcase the many things we do to make the world, country and our community a better place! Our table was highly visited thanks to our rubber duck giveaway - even some of Newtown's finest men in blue couldn't resist! Special thanks to our volunteers Rev. Rodney Brailsford, Roxanne Fitzgerald, Jarrad Roeder, Jennifer Ceslak, Paul Salvatore, Dan Peterson, Donna Miller, Jim Miller, Aldo Sosnoski and Lin Miranda. We also thank our 5K runners Nicole King (Rick Rogers' daughter) and her hubby Alex King.
Rotarians Installing a Peace Pole!!!
Dedication Ceremony - 10/5
On Sunday, October 5th, the Newtown Rotary Club proudly installed a Peace Pole for the community to enjoy at the Linton Memorial / Peaceable Kingdom Park . A Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. Our Peace Pole bears the message ""May Peace Prevail on Earth"" in different eight languages on each of its four sides. The dedication ceremony was full of messages of peace from Rev. Rodney Brailsford, Barbara Simmons, Laura Donovan and Mary Cook. The gift of song created the perfect atmosphere for this event so thank you to our wonderful choir. Special thanks to committee chairs Debra, Porter, Shikha Prashar and Wendy Robson for putting this wonderful program together. And lastly, thanks to the many volunteers, community officials, police officers and citizens who attended this event. Please be sure to stop by and enjoy the Peace Pole whenever you need a little inspiration. You will find it here.
Rotarians Focusing on New Members!
Lunch Meeting - 10/15
The Newtown Rotary Club held an energizing lunch meeting on 10/15 as we formally inducted Catherine Talarico into our Club, pictured with Mark Craig, Mick Petrucci and Steve Sabel. Welcome, Catherine! In addition, we had the pleasure of hearing Classification Speeches by two of our newer members, Karen Platts and Cathy Agasar. Both ladies reflected on their experiences with Rotary and the special focus service plays in their appreciation for the Club and all we do to help our community, country and world a better place. We also had several Committee Chair updates that focused on some recent grants and allocations we've made to charities, our upcoming Pedals for Progress, the NextGen "dine & donate" fundraiser at Jules and Lovebird on 10/22, the library we provided for the homeless shelter, a Beer Launch Party on 10/16, our Food Drive on 10/25, our Pancake Breakfast on 11/16 and this is our "slow" season!
