"Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our own communities and in ourselves."
This quote is front and center at the Rotary International Headquarters Building in Evanston, Illinois.
As this is a 'bye" week for our club I wanted to share with everyone of you about the events that have taken place over the last few weeks as we make an impact not only in our community but around the world.
On October 18th, the club had its annual Pedals for Progress event located at the Olde St. Andrew's Church parking lot. Jerry Agasar and Allen Fidler along with the P4P committee collected 191 bikes, 25 sewing machines and over $3000 in donations. Five days later, the club held our Camaraderie for a Cause at the Clubhouse and raised additional donations to help with the shipping costs.
Last Saturday October 25th, The club held its annual Food Drive at McCaffrey's in the Village of Newtown. A shout out to Shari Donahue for her work and commitment every year to make this Food Drive a reality. How about these numbers...20 carts of groceries and close to $450 in donations, all to help the Wrightstown Food Pantry. Thank you again to Shari and all who volunteered their time to participate.
On Tuesday October 28th, Mark Craig and I visited the newly formed Yardley Rotary Club and on behalf our club provided them a check of $250 as a show of gratitude and welcome to District 7430. Below is a photo of us and Todd Gunerman, President of the club.
Lastly, on Monday October 27th while in the Chicago area, I paid a visit to Rotary International Headquarters for a tour of the building orchestrated by a fellow RI employee and member of the Rotary Club of Evanston Lighthouse Gina Clark. If you ever are in the Chicagoland area and can spare an hour, it is well worth visiting and it is free.
Our next meeting November 5th is a dinner meeting and we will learn more about the impact Rotary Foundation does locally and globally. Charlie Quattrone, who is our club's Foundation chair will address what the Foundation does and how we as Rotarians can help.
We are making significant impacts in the Newtown community and this club doesn't rest on its laurels. We have exciting events and projects coming up as in the next two months as we close out the 2025 year.
Service above self.
Steve Sabel
President, Rotary Club of Newtown, District 7430

The Newtown Rotary Club held our annual Pedals for Progress Service project on Saturday, October 18th in the parking lot across the street from the Olde St. Anthony's Church in Newtown, PA. Thanks to the wonderful members of our community, we were able to collect 172 bicycles and 25 sewing machines to send to developing countries around the world. These items will enable education and vocation for families in these countries. Bicycles allow students to get to school and adults to get to their jobs - things that we take for granted here in the United States. We also raised well over $2,000 to cover the shipping costs as each bike costs about $20 to ship. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who came out and did the hard labor to break the bikes down and load them for deliver to Pedals for Progress and special thanks to Jerry Agasar for his dedication to this cause and leadership along the way. Congratulations to all and well done!
