Presidents Message

"I believe every human has a finite number of heartbeats.  I don't intend to waste any of mine."
Neil Armstrong, commander of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission and the first person to walk on the moon.  He was also an honorary life member of The Rotary Club of Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Our club has been busy over the past few weeks heading into the Rotary Club of Newtown's December to Remember.  The Pancake Day was outstanding and the money raised will help the American Legion and the 2026 Memorial Day Parade and lunch for participants.  Last week, we heard a wonderful classification talk from Rosemary Horsley then the following day the club did our monthly and final Camaraderie for a Cause in 2025 at Blue Point Grill with the spotlight being Friends of Tyler State Park.

On Monday our club starts the December to Remember events for the holiday season.  Our first meeting is a dinner meeting and State Senator Steve Santarsiero will be speaking to the club about the constituent services his office provides.  On Saturday December 6th is a long standing tradition of Breakfast with Santa held at the Washington Crossing Inn followed by the next day (Sunday December 7th) and our annual participation in the Newtown Holiday Parade.

On Wednesday December 10th is our Holiday Luncheon with an assist from Goodnoe Elementary School students who will be singing holiday songs to the members and guests.  Oh, and Santa is coming to pay a visit.  A huge shout out to fellow member Paul Salvatore for the December to Remember events going on and including Christmas Day.  Please refer further down in the Newsletter for all of the activities.

I hope each and everyone of you are enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with love ones.  This is a good time to remember to count your blessings and not your troubles.

Service above self.

Steve Sabel
President, Rotary Club of Newtown, District 7430

Book Club - 1/18
Please join the Newtown Rotary Book Club as we read "My Friends" by the #1 New York Times bestselling author, Fredrdik Backman who also write "A Man Called Ove".  This is an unforgettably funny, deeply moving tale of four teenagers whose friendship creates a bond so powerful that it changes a complete stranger’s life twenty-five years later.  Our Book Club is open to anyone who loves to read and would enjoy the opportunity for some fellowship with a great group of people!  If you have any questions, please contact Laurel Collins at LAUREL8690@YAHOO.COM

Rotarians Making Pancakes!
Pancake Breakfast - 11/16
The Newtown Rotary Club held an amazing Pancake Breakfast at the American Legion on Sunday, November 16th! This was a wonderful family event where so many members of our community enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast whipped up by Joe Garvey. For over three hours, we served breakfast to a steady stream of hungry guests and in doing so, raised funds to support our Veterans and the American Legion. It's the least we could do to honor those who serve our country. Thank you to all of our volunteers, chair Mark Craig, students from CRN Share and CRS Interact groups, Joe Garvey and his great team, those who came to the breakfast and most importantly, our Veterans! We can hardly wait for next year!
Rotarians Helping Friends of Tyler Park
Camaraderie for a Cause - 11/20
The Newtown Rotary Club was proud to host our Monthly Camaraderie for a Cause at Bluepoint Grill on Thursday, November 20th from 5:30-7:00pm where we welcomed the "Friends of Tyler Park".  Liz Griswold, Phil Schmidt and Kathi Knight joined us to share the mission of the Friends of Tyler State Park which is to support the park in preserving, promoting, and maintaining the educational, recreational, natural, and historical resources of the park while building an engaged community.  We are happy to support and contribute to such a worthy cause as Tyler Park is a very much appreciated and well used park right in our wonderful community!  We thank the Friends of Tyler Park for all they do!  We are also grateful to the Bluepoint Grill because you are so supportive of the Newtown Rotary Club and our many causes.
