Presidents Message

"When you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go."
Carol Burnett-93 years young, American comedian, actress, singer and writer.

As Frankie Valli sang, "O what a night," The Rotary Club of Newtown had its most successful Hope on The Vine (5th annual) last Friday night at Rafters.  From the wonderful food stations, libations, the auctions and the camaraderie, it was a special night to be a part of and witness.  A special shout out to Stephanie Eubanks and her committee for the time involved planning, setting up and making it memorable.  Wonderful articles and stories already posted on the Newtown Patch and Facebook.  As you can also see in the newsletter a bevy of pictures from HOV.

Our May 6th lunch we welcome the organization PATHS (Professional Alliance to Help Seniors).  Thank you to Shikha for inviting the organization to speak to us.  On Saturday May 9th, we have our Adopt - A- Highway from  9-11am.  We will meet in the parking lot of Newtown Middle School and our area of road cleanup is from the Middle School down to the entrance of Tyler State Park.Coffee and donuts await you at the Adopt - A - Highway.  Our May 13th lunch we welcome Betsey King and Loi Michelin from the Newtown Historic Association to speak.  Thank you to Debra Porter, Past President of our club for the introductions.

Lunch is always $16.00 and we ask that you register prior so an accurate number of attendees can be provided to Joe Garvey at the American Legion.

Every week as you are aware, we do Happy Dollars which has been going into our Treasury.  Now I am asking every member of our club to think of 1-3 suggestions as to where those dollars should go such as community projects, organizations in our footprint or back to the club Treasury for our use.  The board will review the suggestions and come up with the top 1-2 ideas which will be implemented.  You can send me those suggestions at my email address which is sec103ru85@gmail.com.  I hope to hear from all of you on or before Friday May 15th.

Our club continues to raise the bar in our community and beyond.  Hope to see many of our members on Wednesday May 6th for our lunch meeting.  Service above self.

Steve Sabel
President, Rotary Club of Newtown, District 7430

Book Club - 5/31
Our May Book Club pick is "There Are No Children Here", a 1992 nonfiction book by Alex Kotlowitz that chronicles the lives of two brothers, Lafayette and Pharoah Rivers, growing up in the violent, poverty-stricken Henry Horner Homes housing project in Chicago.  The book details their struggle with gang violence, poverty, and neglect, while also highlighting their resilience and the heroism required to survive in a hostile environment, with Pharoah finding a path through education. It was adapted into a TV movie starring Oprah Winfrey and is considered a classic work on urban poverty.  Our Book Club meeting will be held on Sunday,  May 31st from 3:00-5:00pm.  Please register for details!
Rotarians Supporting Arbor Day!!!
The Newtown Rotary Club was proud to participate in Newtown Borough's annual Arbor Day on April 17th.  This was a community-focused event dedicated to honoring the importance of trees and environmental stewardship. Residents, families, and local leaders gathered to participate in the planting of seedlings and trees that will help enhance the beauty and sustainability of the area. The Newtown Rotary Club proudly supported this effort by making a donation toward the seedlings and trees that will be planted.  In addition, many wonderful volunteers showed up to help plant trees, organize the students and their art activities and enjoyed bringing our "service above self" mission to life!  Many thanks to you all!
NextGen Playing Cornhole for $$!
The NextGen Rotary Cornhole Tournament brought the community together for a fun and energetic morning at Bucks County Community College. Players, supporters, and local businesses created a lively atmosphere filled with friendly competition and connection. Sponsors added to the experience with interactive tables, giveaways, and creative ways to engage attendees. Even for those not competing, it was a great chance to cheer on teams, enjoy good food, and be part of the excitement. Overall, the event was a strong show of support for NextGen’s efforts and a great example of community coming together for a good cause.
HOV - Early Pictures - More to Come!
Hope on the Vine was one of those nights that just reminds you how special this community is. The Newtown Rotary Club brought together an incredible group of people, all in support of a meaningful cause, and the energy in the room was truly contagious.  The evening featured a live auction, silent auction, a wine pull, white glove service from our NextGen group (thank you!), dancing, bourbon, cigars and special recognition for our fearless chair, Stephanie Eubanks.  From the warm conversations to the shared sense of purpose, everything about the evening felt uplifting and genuine. It was the perfect blend of great vibes, generous hearts, and a whole lot of fun. Already looking forward to the next year!!!  PS:  Forgive the amount of pictures but Shari Donahue is to blame lol!!!  Please visit our NEWTOWN ROTARY FACEBOOK page for more pictures https://www.facebook.com/Rotary.Newtown.PA!  Like and share too!  This is just the beginning!
