Newtown Rotary Club Starts a Yearlong Celebration
January 30, 2013. Newtown, PA. Launching a yearlong celebration of its sixtieth anniversary, the Newtown Rotary Club celebrated in the company of heroes.
What started as a birthday party for 93 year old Rotarian Bob Davis, evolved into a real celebration of the Club’s sixtieth anniversary and Rotarian Cam Wilson’s 92nd birthday. Both Bob and Cam are WWII veterans and were joined by a third WWII veteran and a former Rotarian, Stan Jacobs who, like Bob Davis, fought to repel the Nazi counter attack in the Ardennes in 1944. Congressman Fitzpatrick came to thank these veterans and gave each of them a US flag which was once flown over the Capitol Building, along with a certificate of appreciation. Several Rotarians regaled the assembly with anecdotes about their personal interaction with Bob and Cam over the years.
This birthday event was the first of many activities planned for the year. The next big celebration is Hope on The Vine, on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Check the web site www.Newtownrotary.org for details. Members of the community are invited to participate (there will be live auction, entertainment and food). Proceeds will be allocated to worthy causes in the community. Last year, The Rotary Club of Newtown distributed over $22,000.
