The Rotary Club of Hillsborough is once again organizing the “Flags for Heroes” field of honor at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex for this Veteran’s Day. “Flags for Heroes” is a national movement designed to honor our veterans by assembling a field of American flags bearing the names of the veteran on the flag pole.

“We had a great response last year from community members who wished to honor their family member or friend who served in the military,” commented Michele Kidd, the Rotary Club of Hillsborough member organizing the event. “Along with our Municipal Township partners, we assembled 100 American flags at the corner of Beekman Lane and South Branch Road. It was a very moving site for everyone who passes by.”Pictured above, members of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough posing before the 2023 Field of Honor to be set in place again for Veteran’s Day 2024.A dedication ceremony featuring Township officials and special guests on Veterans Day will be held directly adjacent to the field of honor.

Anyone can sponsor a flag for a $50 donation, which will include the veteran’s name and short message from the sponsor attached to the flag pole.  In addition, people can donate an amount of their choice to help sponsor a local veteran who has not had a Flag sponsored for them.

The flags will be in position at the Township Municipal Complex from November 9 – 23.  Those wishing to participate can find further information at Flags for Heroes. (https://portal.clubrunner.ca/4875/Stories/flags-for-heroes-2024)
