As part of the 250th Year Celebration of the founding of our nation, the Rotary Club of Hillsborough is proud to be a key sponsor of a special designation of Hillsborough as a “Victory Town,” one of fewer than 200 such designations in New Jersey. The designation recognizes those towns through which thousands of American and French troops marched in 1781 en route to victory at the Siege of Yorktown, Virginia, where they forced the surrender of British General Cornwallis.
“Helping to highlight the important role Hillsborough played in the Revolutionary War has special meaning to our Rotary Club, whose mission is “Service Above Self,” commented Abed Medawar, president of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough. “Rotary has served our nation for over 120 years of its history, and the Rotary Club of Hillsborough has delivered a wide array of support to our community for more than half a century.”
Hillsborough Township Mayor, Catherine Payne, commented that "Hillsborough Township is grateful to the Rotary Club of Hillsborough for their generous sponsorship of our Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association membership, forever commemorating Hillsborough's place in New Jersey and America's history. "
Organized by the “National Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association, “Victory Towns” receive, among other forms of recognition, the right to display a historic marker that will be displayed in the Township, accompanied by a special unveiling ceremony to be announced by the Township.
