Joe Kelley updates us on the Sgt. Michael J. Kelley School in Pagham, Afghanistan built under the supervision of the MA Army National Guard in honor and memory of his son, Michael.

NO SCC MEETINGS UNTIL MARCH FOLKS...STAY TUNED FOR WEEKLY VENUE!

PRESENT: Bart, Janet, Joe, Nancy, Joan, Walter, Sue, Dietrich, Gregory, Colleen, Debbie, Lois, Lambert, Janice Brown, Bernie, Beverly

  • PHF awarded to Debbie for her year as President of the club 2017-2018

  • Janice gave us our student assignments for the Cushing Party next Wednesday 6PM @ Barker Tavern. Please be a bit early so we can hide gifts before the kids arrive. Thanks go to Gregory for agreeing to play Santa (HoHoHo) on short notice and with no idea what this event looks like! You will be billed $20 for the meal by Bernie (Barker). If you have a friend who wants to come, we still have students needing a sponsor (gift buyer). Let me know. We are expecting 23 students and 11 teachers. Mrs. Claus will be joining us again.

  • Joe's tribute to his son and story of the school in Pagham, Afghanistan named after his son, first MA National Guardsman killed in Afghanistan was very special. The school opened with fewer than 100 boys and now educates more than 600 boys and girls. This is very special and important to see girls being educated as well as the boys in this country at this time. I was a government decision. Our club's involvement included teachers' salary, a water pump, preparing an area for a playground (others provided the equipment), winter coats, hat, mittens and boots for the kids. Joe is fundraising for a new roof to go on next spring as well as repair of classrooms that have water damage because of the damaged roof in place.

  • Dietrich reminded us that we agreed to allocate $500 a year to honor Michael going forward. Joe has elected to give money to local VETS as part of this agreement. We need to decide how to provide and direct these funds in 2018-19 - lest we forget.

  • Sign up for tree-selling time! First 3 weeks in December. I am organizing Shaws, JD is focusing on Marshfield and businesses. It would be good to cover Village Market as well. Maybe we will switch out one Shaw's weekends for that. (stay tuned). Thank you if you have signed up. If you are able to do more than 1 session, that would be very helpful. We only make money when we bother to show up and ask! You do not have to do it alone!!!

DON’T FORGET DIETRICH’S QUETIONAIRE !!! I believe he is still collecting them.

Respectfully submitted,

Janet

NEXT WEDNESDAY 6 PM BARKER TAVERN – please be early!
