October 2, 2013: Club Night

The regular meeting of The Scituate Rotary Club was held on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 6:30 PM at the Scituate Country Club.

Those present were Dietrich Bilger, Lambert Brandes, Lois Brandes, Sue Heller, Walter Heller, Michael Johnson, Joe Kelley, John Miller, Joan Powers, Lucille Sorrentino, Jack Stebe, David Tompson, Lisa Tompson, and Bernie Westerveld

President, Jack Stebe, convened the meeting at 6:30 PM.

Lucille Sorrentino led The Pledge to The American Flag.

Jack Stebe offered the Invocation.

All present spoke The Four Way Test.

Lois read The Secretary’s Report and it was approved.

Bernie completed a thorough Treasurer’s Report that was most impressive.

Our club will pay the fees for any member who attends The Leadership Seminars on October 5th at Whites in Westport.

The Foundation Grant Applications were submitted by October 1st.  Joe completed the grant for The Michael Kelley School.  Joan completed the grant for The Community Dinners.  Thank you Joe and Joan for all your help with this project.

All is set with The Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Marshfield for the trip to the Providence Bruins next Friday, October 18th.  SRC Members are sponsoring “angel tickets” to this game for the students.  SRC Members who travel to Providence, will have the opportunity to have dinner together before the game, probably at Federal Hill.  Because of the timing of this event, and to encourage SRC Members to attend, there will be no regular SRC meeting on Wednesday, October 16th.

Sandi Schipul is organizing a luncheon at Friendship House on October 23rd at 11:30 AM.  After the luncheon, we will have our regular SRC weekly meeting, eliminating the need for a separate night meeting.

The next meeting at The Scituate Country Club will be on Wednesday, October 30th.  Our own Candace Cramer will be our speaker.

On Saturday, November 2nd, SRC has the opportunity to help package meals at The Sanctuary Church in Marshfield.

Jack again commended all the crew who worked The Senior Dinner at St. Luke’s.  Joe Kelley supervised the cooking and Joan Powers oversaw the entire dinner.  Joan made a collage of the events at the dinner.  Thank you, Joan, for your work as our resident photographer.  Beautifully done!

SRC is planning to host a Senior Community Luncheon at The Marshfield Council on Aging on a Saturday during the winter.  A date has been set for lunchtime, Saturday, February 15, 2014.

Michael Johnson and Lucille Sorrentino are working on Programs.  We commend them on the fantastic programs we enjoy at Scituate Rotary Club.

Walter Heller conducted Happy Sad Bucks and The Search for the Queen.  Maureen held the winning ticket, but the elusive queen is still up to her old tricks.  Can it be that there are only six cards left?

Two new griddles have been purchased.

For Club Night, President, Jack Stebe, presented an educational event.  Using the TV that Joan Powers so graciously loaned to us for the evening, Jack took us to the various Rotary sites.  He showed how to access email to members, and other valuable ways to move around and gain information from Clubrunner.   Well done, Jack.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Lois Brandes
