Robynne Ryan-Lambert, Project Reach Coordinator
Marshfield High School Students support Elementary School Students as Community Service Volunteers

Meeting Notes for September 5, 2018

PRESENT: Bart, Janet, Lucille, Dietrich, Joan, Nancy, Mike, Sue, Walter, JD, Debbie, and speaker Robynne Ryan-Lambert, Project Reach Coordinator. Bob and Sandi joined in a bit late (but had already had dinner). [Again: 12 of 15 needed]

After our usual opening, including, still, the 4-way test, Past President Debbie was awarded, at last, her Past President Pin as well as a gavel plaque. Thank you again Debbie for your leadership last year. Happy Bucks were generous for Janet's return, Mike's birthday, and Robynne's visit.

Lucille spoke briefly about assignments for our film showing October 7th but you will hear more about that in a following message.

JD introduced Robynne who told us about Project Reach in the Marshfield Elementary Schools. Robynne is the program coordinator and responsible for matching High School Volunteers with elementary students needing extra help to progress in school. Elementary teachers identify students with needs then Robynne has to find enough MHS student to volunteer 1 hour per week to help those students in the Elementary Schools gain proficiency and independence in mathematics, reading and writing. Fortunately, the high schoolers love the task and make a tremendous difference in the kids lives. This year there will be approximately 50-60 students to help.

The success of this program comes from the commitment and continued participation of the volunteers. Over the past few years PR has tried to reward the volunteers with college scholarships. That money comes from donations and fund-raisers. Scituate Rotary was pleased to contribute to efforts with proceeds from Giving Trees last December. We are hopeful that the volunteers will help us collect this coming year. Robynne seems to think they will do that!

The meeting continued with Lucille's direction and ended promptly at 8 PM. Thank you Pres. Bart!

Respectfully submitted,

Janet Schmitz, secretary
