Children's Melanoma Prevention Foundation had a busy weekend beginning with the Dermatology Nurses' Association 29th Annual Convention in San Diego. CMPF executive director, Maryellen Maguire Eisen RN, MSN, gave an hour-long lecture on "Sunscreen and Vitamin D: Facts and Fiction". Two of our board members also presented at the convention: Krista Rubin, NP from Mass General's Melanoma Disease Center and Emily Tierney, M.D. a Mohs Micrographic Surgeon in practice on the South Shore.
I attended the Melanoma Foundation of New England's "Call to Action" Conference on March 20th for melanoma survivors committed to the passage of anti-indoor-tanning legislation here in Massachusetts. The main presenter was Alan Geller, MPH, RN, Senior Research Scientist, Harvard School of Public Health, who provided a factual foundation for advocacy.
On Sunday, we exhibited at the Cohasset Health and Wellness Fair where we were placed next to the Dana Farber Skin Cancer Unit. It was a wonderful opportunity not only to share the Foundation's work with the public but also to exchange information with professionals in the field of skin cancer prevention and early detection

Program: Speaker : Gwen Morgan "What If-Workbook"

Gwen lives in Scituate and has written a book "What if-Workbook". She came up with this idea while dealing with deaths in her own family and with conversations with family members. She also had done volunteer work with Hospice and saw the need of such a work book. It is a workbook to serve as a compressive guide in assisting individuals and families with putting their personal affairs and final wishes in order as a gift to those who may be affected in the event of the aforementioned life changes. This comprehensive guide allows loved ones to know the exact personal, final wishes of the family member or friend. It is an Opportunity to Give the Gift of Preparedness to Your Loved Ones. It includes places chapters for Personal Information, Contact Information, Children's Information, Financial Information, Personal Assets, Document Storage, Family Medical History, Personal Last Wishes, Obituary/Death Notice, Gifts to Loved Ones, Final Message, and Epilogue. She hopes the workbook will assist others in getting their affairs in order, encourage communication among family members, and remind us all to live our lives fully every day; when we think about our end hopefully it will remind us that we only have one shot in this life that has been given us!

The workbook sells for $20. For more information go to www.whatifworkbook.com or call Gwen at 781-210-2045
