February 27, 2013: GIE Dinner at Janet's and Bart's
The regular weekly meeting of Scituate Rotary was a GIE Dinner held at the home of Janet and Bart.

A jolly good time of fellowship, pizza, beer, and sodas preceded the meeting.

Members fortunate enough to attend were Bart, Bernie, Bob Schipul, Dietrich, Jack, Janet, Janice, JD, Joan Joe, Lambert, Lois, Lucille, Sandi, and Walter.

Joe called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM and led The Pledge to The American Flag.

Our own, Reverend Bob, offered a beautiful prayer of blessing for Dietrich as he prepares to enter his year of Governorship.

Joe Kelley presented a fitting Word of Wisdom.

A cheer went up for our Sergeant at Arms, Walter, when he drew The Queen.  Congratulations! Walter.  No one could be more deserving.

Our scholarships were the first item of discussion.  The SHS Principal and counselors help us select the RYLA recipients.  Joe received an email from SHS concerning the SHS Scholarships.  We will offer two scholarships and pay the recipients before the first semester.  Community Outreach is a significant piece of criteria we use for a final selection.  It was requested by the membership that we have an opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates before the final decision.  We are also planning to offer one scholarship each to Boys’ and Girls’ State.

It is now a state law that we must have a certified health expert present whenever we serve food to the public.  Several of our members are strongly considering taking this Health Training Course, as we need to comply with this law whenever we have a food event.  Saint Luke’s Church is planning to offer the course as soon as ten people register. The cost is $150.00 dollars.

Joe reported that a Motorcycle Run could be pretty lucrative and has the possibility of raising quite a bit of money.  A trip from The Michael Kelley Bridge in Scituate to the Training Base in Bourne shows promise.

It has been suggested that we not sell tickets for Dietrich’s Installation, but have people register on line.  Lucille will go to Weymouth Rotary and Janice to PrePets to gain support for attendance at Dietrich’s Installation.  Our hearty thanks and praise to these two gorgeous ladies for undertaking these responsibilities!  The Party in on June 7th, and the cost is $55.00 dollars per person.

There is a Rotary Leadership Institute on March 23rd.

On March 6th, SRC will hold its meeting at Mill Wharf Restaurant at 6:00 PM.  Everyone will eat off the menu and it will be a cash bar.  Lisa will be bringing in a SHS guest student, and Razia Jan will be there.

Respectfully submitted,
