Scituate Rotary Newsketter February 16, 2010: Rosamaria Carlozzi - "Rotary World Peace Fellow"

President William Clark opened the meeting and welcomed guests

Pledge of Allegiance: Walter Heller

Invocation: Bob Schipul

Secretary: Joan reminded club about March 2nd Rotary Club of Braintree's fund raiser "Wine For Water" at 6:30 PM and  March 6th Rotary Club of Duxbury -Fundraising tea at The Senior Center in Duxbury.

Brought up that our meeting on March 9th is Ash Wednesday and wondered if we were going to have a meeting. A motion was made to have the meeting with no penalty if members couldn't make it because of religious reasons. It was second. The vote was 15 in favor and 2 abstained.

Candace: Tax return bill (3 years) from accountant, Ernest Grassey was $900. It would be split between foundation $500 and club $400. Joe will send checks.

Dietrich: introduced Daniel Gerard who is an interested in being a member. He was here at the last meeting.

Bart: It was 41 years ago that Alden Mitchell was installed as president of Scituate Rotary at Minot Club House.

Connie: read a letter from Lew Burridge "He is stable but bored".

Queen of Hearts: Bart -no Queen of Hearts

Program: Rosamaria Carlozzi, an International Peace Fellow. She told us about her experience at the Rotary International Peace Center at Chulalonkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand ( "City of Angels and City of Smiles" ) She showed a DVD of the many pictures she took in Thailand. There were 17 individuals from 13 different countries. They had come together to discuss world politics and the conflicts within them, share different religious, social and cultural backgrounds and live together for three months, July 2010- September 2010. They spent 12 weeks learning from peace and conflict specialists/professors from all over the world. They learned from each other. They also did field study and visited theaters, refuge camp in Burma, Ankor Wat, Cambodia, Killing Fields in Phnom Phen and several villages. They attended many Rotary functions including dancing and banquets. She expressed her thanks to Rotary for giving her this wonderful opportunity.
