August 29th, 2012: District Governor, Joseph Clancy, and Assistant District Governor, George Prebola
The weekly meeting of The Scituate Rotary Club was held at The Scituate Country Club.

Members present at the meeting were Dietrich Bilger, Lambert Brandes, Lois Brandes, Janice Brown, Candace Cramer, James Gilmore, Walter Heller, Beatrix Hurwitch,, Michael Johnson, Joseph Kelley, John Miller, Joan Powers, Robert Schipul, Sandra Schipul, Lucille Sorrentino, Howard Tufts, and Bertien Westerveld. Our distinguished guests were Joseph Clancy, and George Prebola.

President, Joseph Kelley, called the meeting to order at 6:40, after an all inclusive board meeting with the District Officers, and led our assembly in The Pledge to The American Flag.

It was good to have The Reverend Robert Schipul back with us and hear him offer the Invocation.

Joe led the group in the speaking of the Four Way Test and presented us with several important announcements.

First of all, there will be a Rotary District 7950 Community Volunteer Recognition Night on Wednesday, September 19th, 2012, at LOMBARDO'S in Randolph at 6:00-10:00 PM. The cost is $45 dollars. There is a candidate, but who it is was not revealed.

School Supplies for The Michael Kelley School in Afghanistan have been donated by Scituate High School. What a wonderful way to spread hope and good-will!

Especially important to all of us is The Run for The Fallen this Saturday, September 8th. All meet at Scituate Green, by the elephants, at 8:00 AM. Tee Shirts with the name of every fallen soldier will be available, and there will be ways to help even if one cannot walk or run the entire route to Peggity Beach. This is one way we can show our love and appreciation to those who have given their all for us.

Keep tuned for more news about the Providence Bruins Event. Put November 2nd on your calendar. Let's match or exceed Jamie's group of 25 last year!!! Jamie, that was an incredible showing. You're a hard act to follow!

Sergeant at Arms, Walter Heller, collected Happy/Sad Bucks. It was a time to catch up with each other's joys and sorrows, and collect for a worthy cause, Eradication of Polio!

President, Joe Kelley, introduced our distinguished guests, District Governor, Joe Clancy, and Assistant District Governor, George Prebola.

District Governor, Joe Clancy, spoke to us from his heart about the many facets of Rotary, both within each separate club, and how we interact out in the world. He stressed how we need to join with other community charities and work together. (Right on, President, Joe Kelley. Your vision for Scituate Rotary is right on the money!) Highlights of his talk centered on membership retention and attracting new members. Leadership, and the many avenues that Rotary has for the development of leadership were central to his message. He highlighted events that will be taking place the rest of this year which we will report on as each one presents itself. Finally, he praised Scituate Rotary for their organization and foresight and the many humanitarian projects in which we are involved. He said that his "job is to make Joe Kelley's job as easy as possible so that all Rotarian Club Members will have a good year," and "Show me a good club and I'll show you a good president." Yea, Joe!!! We already knew it. Nobody had to tell us. You're great! (Next year, it will be you, Jack. By the way, you are missed.)

It is reassuring to know that Rotary District 7950 is in the good and capable hands of Joe Clancy and George Prebola! They are outstanding leaders.

Next year we will be bursting with pride when our own, Dietrich Bilger, is in the role of District Governor.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
