ROTARY  NEWSLETTER APRIL 22, 2009

Synergy waves of "New Focus" were generated during this meeting, stemming from the brainstorms of our Marketing Strategy presenters, Walter and Jamie. Also present was the veritable afterglow of our club's 40th Anniversary festivities! The spirit of Rotary was sparked among many old and new friends.

PRESENT: President Bob, Dietrich, Lew, Jamie, Walter, Michael, Joe, Karen, Connie, Bart, Bob P., Arthur, Sandi, Janet, Ben, Lisa, Diane and Bernie.

Our meeting was called to order by Pres. Bob, Jamie led the Pledge and Ben offered the invocation. Diane happily announced that $110 was given during our 40th Anniversary Happy Bucks.

Tonight's Happy Bucks were offered for Earth Day, Vacation Week and Administrative Assistant's Day. Bernie was featured in the Dutch News last week during his travels. Bob Price won the Queen of Hearts on the first draw and magnanimously donated his winnings to the Polio Eradication Pot.

We look forward to next month's Rotary Scholarship Awards. Lisa has been given 6 ScituateHigh School seniors for us to select 2 candidates to receive $2,000 each.

Dietrich was privileged to set in place plans for a Kenya Peace Initiative core program that will include Father Ignatius, Dan Schmelzer and Ray Helmick's films. We look forward to more information as it continues to unfold with outstanding international connections!

And the "piece de resistance" came when Walter came forth to present his version of Rotary Marketing Strategy and it certainly sparked member brainstorming! Jamie also took the podium to give his perspectives as a new Rotarian as an impetus to pass our enthusiasm to perspective members.

His suggestions began with getting our incredible service information out to all club members, as he said he was still getting his head around ALL of our numerous projects. Next he suggested that we actually advertise and announce these activities to the community media and local websites. We should also sponsor two club events that focus only on membership.

For in these extra-ordinary times of change, all of our institutions are in question for their moral motivation. It gives new meaning to charitable giving and thus: OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND- we just need to LOOK AROUND.  There is much energy (and synergy) in a room when active people are present-so our club is duly armed to go into the community and show everyone what we are about- and that would be: SERVICE ABOVE SELF!!!!!

We thank Walter and Jamie for infusing us with vigor and spirit.

We will see you  all back next week, for a presentation of Scituate High Schools Service Projects under the leadership of Kaitlin St. George.
