Governor William Tennant came to deliver a message from Rotary International President Barry Rassin and District 7950.

MINUTES OF MEETINGS-26 SEPTEMBER 2018

GOVERNOR WILLIAM TENNANT'S VISIT

PRESENT for both sessions or club meeting: Gov. Bill and Debbie Zukowski, Bart, Janet, Bernie, Dietrich, Debbie Wheeler, Jean Sullivan (AG), Colleen Davidson, Walter, Sue, Robynne Ryan, Janice, Beatrice, Joan, Nancy, JD.

BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS: Bart described all our club has done and intends to do this Rotary year including community dinners, weekly programs, phonebook, Cushing Christmas, 5 international projects (Uganda, Kenya,Afghanisan-2, Cambodia), pancake breakfast, Interact club with 25 members, loss and potential gain of new members. (The secretary reminded him that much of this needs to be discussed with his BOD). Membership discussion highlighted concerns over member retention. Gov. suggests we make some rules regarding members to add to our by-laws. The Gov. knows of our grant applications for the coming year-awaiting award notification. Honorary membership should be reviewed and renewed annually. 50th Birthday coming up in February. Mention of the International Country Committee which we joined.

CLUB MEETING:

Joan wore the flag we saluted then offered the invocation.

First order of business was installation Colleen Davidson as a new member by the Governor after a motion and vote to welcome her.

Dinner was prepared by North River Grill at Widow's Walk Golf Club owner, Mary, and was well presented for us.

Then Gov. Bill told us his Rotary history going back about 25+ years. We (Bart and I) have seen him at all District events over the pasts 19 years either hanging international flags or wearing the red hat of the Sargent-At-Arms (or both). He is a retired mechanic and member of the Braintree Club. He was originally from the Club of the Bridgewaters. His fiancee and Administrative Assistant is Debbie Zukowski. She is a member of the Rotary Club of The Bridgewaters.

The Governor delivered the message of RI President Barry: “Be the Inspiration”-this year's theme. He wants us to be the inspiration to each other and the public. Inspire people when fundraising, for example. The President is concerned about trees, climate change, membership-take care of members first, include neighbors, friends and leaders in membership. We have the freedom to change our by-laws to suit our club. Change Committee Chairs! Get people involved. He is interested in communication technology, peace and conflict resolution, Interact, Rotaract, RYLA, and youth exchange, (yeah Colleen). We need “new blood”.

The District exists to support clubs – nothing more or less. Their programs are all intended to help clubs be better and stronger. The District website has the information we need about district committee chairs, club info, club and district events/calendar, and downloadable documents. Up front are the Provident Bruins 11/7, District Training 11/10 (organized by Governor-Elect Albright), and The Foundation Dinner 11/15 in Wareham.

Meeting adjourned 7:45.

Respectfully submitted,

Janet Schmitz, Secretary
