14 November 2018: Dr. Dennis Snyder - Medical Missions for Children
MEETING MINUTES – 14 NOVEMBR 2018
PRESENT: Bart, Janet, Bob, Sandi, Joe, Nancy, Joan, Walter, Sue, JD, Dennis, Dietrich. (12 of 15 needed)
Meeting began with Dennis’ presentation so members could attend town meeting. After dinner at 7 we conducted our business.
I am sorry so many missed this meeting bacause Dennis always makes us feels so good about ourselves! He began listing all the countries he visits and how blessed he is to have great volunteers who can give 10 days to 2 weeks for these trips. He said they are dealing with more cancers, tumors and dental care recently. Rwanda and China were highlighted and Dennis says he would not be in those places except for Scituate Rotary Club. He called Suzanne’s efforts in China a “miracle” and noted that our furnished clinic in Gitwe has helped spawn a real hospital and a military hospital. There are more than 2 million untreated persons in these countries who have no life – a 1 hour surgery can give them a life. For me the most interesting thing I learned is that where these trips occur, teaching goes on. After 3 to 5 visits, local physicians are able to take over and he does not have to go back. The exception is South America. There he/they will have to return forever. The people want to be taken care of, not learn to take care of themselves. How can we help?: Financial contribution, attend the fundraiser April 26 in Boston, add MMFC link to our website, add the fundraiser to both our and the district’s website.
BUSINESS MEETING:
- Report on “Nuts and Bolts” attended by Walter and Sue. Membership, PR, Meeting times and places (anything goes!), District Website, New Generation-Interact, Rotaract, RYLA, Student Exchange Programs-no cost to a club! Walter said “it makes me want to do more!” Both Walter and Sue said it was an excellent program. Maybe they can put together a mini version for all of us for a mid-winter meeting. (Mike, take note).
- Upcoming events: Foundation dinner, President training, PETS, RYLA, Districg training, District Conference, Convention in Hamburg, Germany, DG Installation Hyannis
NEXT MEETING at the Country Club for Joe Kelley’s presentation. THIS WILL BE THE LAST MEETING AT THE COUNTRY CLUB UNTIL MARCH !
