He covered: Who we are, What we do, Where are we and What can we do together. It is officially the Gerry E. Studds Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. It is an 842-square mile federally protected marine sanctuary located at the mouth of Massachusetts Bay between Cape Cod and Cape Ann ( right outside of Scituate). It is know as an excellent whale watching site. It is a breeding ground for whales. It is an excellent feeding ground for the whales. In 1854 the US Navy sent Lieutenant Henry Stellwagen to survey and map the area. On October 7, 1992 Congress designated the area as a National Marine Sanctuary. The governing body is NOAA National Ocean Service. He told about the several educational programs they have and they have a good deal of volunteers including divers. They also have a boat with a glass bottom that they can view

the ocean area including old ship wrecks. It is a protected area. He answered many questions and he encouraged us to visit the Sanctuary, which have the buildings on First Cliff where the old Coast Guard Station use to be.
