The Rotary Club of Pawtucket raises $1,470 for the Pawtucket Holiday Basket Drive spearheaded by Laureen Grebien.  Check presented at weekly meeting.

(Pawtucket) Pawtucket’s first lady, Laureen Grebien, called on Pawtucket Rotarians to brighten the Thanksgiving holiday for the City’s neediest residents.  Former Mayor’s wife, Joan Doyle, started this effort over 10 years ago.

Now in her third year, Grebien, who was invited to speak at the Rotary Club meeting, told the Rotarians that the need is so great, up to 500 baskets will be given away this year.  “These baskets are stuffed, giving the recipients a full Thanksgiving meal with extra food to last a couple of more days,” she said.  “I am thankful for the generosity of the business community and Pawtucket residents who give to us donations to purchase food for these baskets.”

President Thomas Mann, presented Grebien with a check for $1,470, funds collected from individual Pawtucket Rotarian contributions matched by the Club.  “Community service and helping those in need are what we are all about,” Mann says, who recognized the first lady’s efforts to continue this great City tradition.
According to Grebien, cash and in-kind donations are still being taken. Cash and in-kind donations, including turkies, instant potatoes, bags of rice, cranberry sauce, gravy, beans, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, macaroni and cheese, can still be donated to this food drive.  Checks can be sent or food delivered to the Department of Planning & Redevelopment, 175 Main St. 3rd Floor, Pawtucket, RI 02860.
