The Rotary Club of Bourne Sandwich enters year two of its three year commitment to support Cape Kids Meals as its community service project.
Cape Kids Meals is the Cape Cod chapter of Blessing in a Backpack. The program began with an initial pilot project in 2014 at two elementary schools in Dennis. At those schools 60% meet poverty level guidelines for the school reduced or free lunch program. Family food insecurity is a problem across the Cape. In 2016-2017 the Rotary Club of Bourne Sandwich with additional student and adult volunteers purchased, packed and delivered breakfast and weekend lunch food packs to 100 students in 4 elementary schools in Bourne and Sandwich. Successful fundraising will insure weekly packs are available to 125 children in the 2017-2018 school year.
