The following story is courtesy of Rich Childs who was the brainchild behind this project. Here it is in his own words...
A little history about the project... The house was in dire need of several things to keep the house safe for the kids and allow for easier living for the family in general. We removed the old flooring (three layers) in order to get to the original sub floor. Then we screwed the sub floor to the floor joists every six inches to stop squeaking. We then installed a new under-layment on top of that gluing and screwing every six inches again. Then we laid down a product call Ditri which allows the under-layment to move while the tile on top does not helping to resist tile from cracking or the grout to pop out. We then laid down the new tile and grouted. This was all done by NAK Industries at no charge for labor. The electrical problems that the house had where corrected and brought up to date by adding GFCI outlets in the bathroom which will keep someone from getting shocked, added lights where they where needed as well as corrected issues with wires that previously had been disconnected due to a small fire previously. Switches where added to allow lights to be turned on safely where needed. This was done by REC Electric at no charge for labor. The plumbing needed to be updated, moved and corrected in many areas. We moved the laundry out of the utility room and put it in the mudroom in the basement. This was the most logical place and provided a lot of room for the family to do the laundry. We moved an existing sink and then the plumber redid all the plumbing for the laundry and the new sink location. He disconnected an existing gas auxiliary heater that was unsafe. Installed scald proof shower valves and corrected other plumbing issues with the water supply lines. Installed a water line to the refrigerator for water and ice cubes. This was all done by KMD Plumbing at no charge for labor, also Snow and Jones of Yarmouth donated all the plumbing supplies at their cost to the Barnstable Sunrise Rotary Club. We painted the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, new laundry room with paint provided by the home owner. We also painted the railings and the transition pieces for the floor. This was done by NAK Industries, Ed Dutton, and KMD Plumbing for no charge for labor. Associated Alarm Systems, Inc, Kelly Keane, Rich Childs, Barnstable Sunrise Rotary, Norman Wilson, Randy Childs, NAK Industries, Charlie Raposo, Lee S., Kevin D, Steve D, Ed Dutton, Snow & Jones, KMD Plumbing, REC Electric, Jennifer Harrington all donated to this project to make a better home for a family in need! Thank you to all that helped on this project to make it a complete success. The homeowner was completely overwhelmed at the generosity of all involved.
